The "buzzer", the first, the original electronic. Before computers, there was the "buzzer".

I often wondered why a simple "wand" such as the airports used, be passed over the Jockey as he left jocks quarters, unless of course it was handed to him in the paddock. But I am inclined to believe it is a "single" operation, not too many people involed.

Should be:
1. banned for life
2. made to be personally liable for the entire amount of money bet on that race, all pools, on and off track
3. jail time

Zero tolerance and maximum penalty for ALL who cheat at the track. No exceptions, so symphathy. Ever.

They find a buzzer on the track, how did they determine who dropped it?

Maybe it a sticker on it that said, "If found, please return to..."

Tom, how do you define cheating in horseracing?

Do they ban for life every trainer caught with even one positive?

CRC maintenance has a couple of boxes of the them (as well as other tracks), found along the outside rail of the club house turn, most are buried by the tractors. I am sure that someone could slip into the shed when no one is there, but there is no need, they are too easy to make, I am sure there is a cottage industry out there doing a lucrative business. The probem has always been, who dropped it.

Banned in Michigan only? Tom- If you get your way and all are banned for life, I will start handicapping for whatever trainer/jockey combos are left! Why are so many buzzers found at the clubhouse turn? Farthest point from stewards, or jockeys wanting the early lead in routes?
I know that a bb shot at a horse's butt by 12 year old boys makes white standardbreds run real fast, sometimes even making them jump 3ft fences and running down the street (At least, that is rumors I have heard!)

Well, this certainly qualifies-I am assuming that due process was carried out and the sentence phase is what I am arguing. If a trainer has a only positive, and it can be proven that it was intentional, then yes,, by all means - out for life and pay back the pools. That is what zero tolerance is. By letting the lone instance pass, what you are if effect saying is, OK, we know you cheated, cost tens of thousands of dollars to the betting public, but hey, don't do it too many more times or we will make you stay home for 5 days and make your assistant run the barn for a week. That'll show you!!!

Well, as novel as that theory is, if they banned every trainer for a positive, there would be about 20 trainers left in the country :-)

OR,...maybe we would see them clean up thier act and stop cheating the public?
I don't think we have as many deliberate cheaters as you would believe, but if we do, then maybe killing off the sport is a good idea?

Well, then we would drive boxing right off the map...

Let's face it, as horseracing people, we know that in addition to the difficulty in finding profits, we fight the possibility of corruption every day.

Hey, they can always get work in the WWE!

I agree the corruptioin has to be factored in, but when found, the cheaters need to be factored out.

Tom, no WWE needed; Louisiana racing continues.

Patin came back to Louisiana and obtained the services of a high $$ lawyer. They fought the La Racing Commission successfully for several months and Patin rode at EVD & DeD until his license renewal date. The state refused to issue the renewal, and I haven't heard anything about B. Patin since.

We'll probably see Jeff Faul in Louisiana, his home, quite soon and racing at Delta Downs and maybe at EvD; all dependent upon license renewal date.

BTW, if any of you are in the Baton Rouge area during October, don't miss the inmate rodeo at Angola, north of Baton Rouge approx 60 miles. Sunday only thru-out the month. Get tickets thru Ticketmaster.....and early. A big-time hoot!!

My assumption would be that they are dropped in the clubhouse turn because that would be the time that most cameras may be moving off of the horses, and also after the race is over. Maybe as they are pulling up, or possibly coming back to the winners circle/unsaddling area.

Makes sense! I wonder if they found any stun guns on the clubhouse turn at Louisiana Downs! As slowm as the Great Lakes pars are, stun guns might work!!LOL!!

The first area hit by the tractors out of sight of cameras, , stewards and public, most are buried, some are not.

IMHO, a trainer/jockey not really trying to win a race is cheating, unless the horse is entered not for betting purposes. Anytime a horse is entered, it should be trying to win. Do we ZAP them too??

I recall my days as a groom at AK-SAR-BEN, drinking some beer with a few young excersise riders who were hoping to become jockeys in a few years.

In a very matter of fact manner, they all laminted the races that they would have to use a buzzer. All were very apprehensive about getting caught. There are probably lots of buzzers buried underneath the club house turns of America's tracks.

Evidently you folks don't understand.......This is Michigan. 2nd only to Ill. in horse racing corruption. Ever try to make a bet in Vegas on a Mich. track? Our Governor will not allow us to bet on Mich tracks on the internet but she will allow you to bet on credit and use checks at the track. Morphine on the street gets you 10 years. Caught with it on the track gets you a 30 day suspension. Come visit our Detroit casinos where the take out on slots is higher than on horses. Races are still being run where one owner owns 7 of 8 horses under different names. We also have the Tigers and don't forget the Lions. Be careful of the point spreads on Mich. State. The QB has a drug dealer and bookie to pay off.

hey Whitehos....How can you intimate that illinois racing is corrupt?...(it still appeals to me)..Just because the assistant attorney general of the united states called the state of illinois the most corrupt state in the country.....
