First Peter Graves and now Leslie Nielsen. :(

Surely I'll miss him.

Nielsen's nephew Doug told Canadian radio station CJOB that the actor had been in hospital for 12 days with the illness.

'He just fell asleep and passed away,' he said.
'He was truly a nice man. A very caring, naturally funny guy in day-to-day life, not just because someone wrote something on paper for him.
'He was a very tender-hearted man. He was one of my best friends and I loved him dearly,' he added. 'I'll miss him greatly.'

I think that I could be happy indefinitely on a desert island as long as I had the two Airplane! movies, the three Naked Gun movies, and the six half-hour episodes of Police Squad! (the show on which Naked Gun was based), and he was in all but Airplane! 2. He brought a lot of laughs to a lot of people. May he rest in peace.

Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad, what a great comedic character.
Didn't realize that he was 84, how time flies.

Forbidden Planet. Great film. You must be as old as I am.

I remember being about 12 years old and seeing him as the captain in the Poseidon Adventure. I thought it was so cool because he was born in my home town....and then the captain went down with the ship. But he sure resurfaced as a comedic actor. You'll be missed, Leslie.

Some of you might think I misspelled 'Airplane' in the original post, but I copied and pasted from the article that I linked to....

And it's STILL misspelled in case anyone think's that I am making it up...

Kind of fitting given the man we're talking about I suppose....

Yup, he sure did. He provided us with so many laughs; and for that I'm grateful. I, too, will miss him.

Forbidden Planet. Great film. You must be as old as I am.

Jack Kelly who was the pilot in FP later became mayor of Huntington Beach in Orange County CA, I used to see him around town he has since passed away.

I remember he was investigated for shady deals with realtors but he escaped prosecution.

i read about this on another forum yesterday, and there were a lot of "this is so sad" comments.

I can't really feel sad.. The guy lived a full life, and was starting to get more illnesses like pneumonia. He really stayed busy, which i think contributed to his long life. He must have been fighting for a while -
I think that I read that the Zucker bros. "announced" that they were going to do yet another sequel to the naked gun movies -
which really seems like it was a nice gesture to Leslie to keep fighting more than a real project.

I remembered some of his shticks and laughed aloud a bunch of times. Probably what he would have wanted from a fan. :D:ThmbUp: RIP

Lots of nice comments all over the net.

Possible dialogue from yesterday.....

Saint Peter: "Leslie, it looks as if there might be a few small
blemishes on your record..."

Leslie Nielson: "Surely you jest?!"

Saint Peter: "I'm not joking, and don't call me Shirley!............

I still have my original video tapes of the show when it aired.

"Who are you, how did you get in here?"

"I'm the locksmith...and, I'm the locksmith."

The scene with the Japanese garden almost made me pass out I laughed so hard.

For me I think those TV episodes were funnier than the Naked Gun movies.

I love the shootouts they would have from a distance of about 8 feet apart firing round after round and never hitting anything.
Oh and of course how the guest star is always killed off in the opening credits.

Oh crap. Finally a super vivid recollection from the show other than the gunfights from feet apart behind cans.

Some recollections (http://bighollywood.breitbart.com/dzucker/2010/11/30/why-leslie-nielsen-was-so-good-at-making-us-happy/#more-421685)of Leslie from David Zucker.

Jack Kelly who was the pilot in FP later became mayor of Huntington Beach in Orange County CA, I used to see him around town he has since passed away.
Whenever I hear that name I immediately think of the old black and white western series Maverick, in which he starred with James Garner. Anyone that remembers that one has to be in or near my age bracket, and that is like ancient. :D

Lefty

Maverick made a star of James Garner. At one time Jack Kelly was supposed to be the 2nd coming of Gable, but didn't quite make it to that level of stardom.
Before coming into the Maverick series to help take the work load off Garner, Jack Kelly starred in a TV series called King's Row.
