Big A. fans, next time you go to Aqueduct, take a good look around. Hopefully by this time next year, the plant will look substantially different. Gone will be years of neglect and urban blight replaced with clean, modern facilities. Maybe even the pipe dream of the 2012 Breeders Cup. It's actually quite exciting.

Speaking of pipe dreams.....

If Delaware, Philly, Charles Town, and every other "racino" is any indication, Aqueduct will look exactly the same, if not worse, in 2011 after another winter. The entrance to the new slots room(s), and the rooms themselves, however, will be fantastic -- beautiful, and state of the art.

Odds of this being the case 250-1

Genting does not what that to happen. They are a state of the art company, and they do not want to put their name on something that sucks. Their international reputation is on the line, and they want to have a great facility, that includes horse racing.

I was at Aqueduct yesterday. Normally it's a sad, gloomy, cold place, even when some of the best horses in the world are on display. I was able to take solace knowing sometime in the next two years, I won't have to dodge pools of spit or bring my own anti-bacterial soap with me. I also take solace knowing Genting is going to bring all the bells and whistles transforming decades of neglect into a world-class entertainment facility.

That's all great, but if you guys are looking forward to them revamping the entire racetrack and making it "state-of-the-art" in the time frame they're talking about you're going to be very disappointed. I hope I'm wrong, but since they would be the very first racino to overhaul a racetrack as well as build a casino it's a longshot, at best, not only because of the cost but especially given the fact that they want this thing done sooner rather than later.

Speaking of the Big A, when does racing move to the inner track? Thanks in advance.

Thanks, PA. Time to hone the early speed figs.

Genting is concerned only with the casino. They will not be doing much for the rest of the place. Once NYRA starts getting revenue, it might improve the rest of the place. The fact is though that they can make the place lok like the Trump Tower and if the people who populate the joint are scumbags, it won't last. I was there Sat and watched as people spit on carpeted floors and tossed programs and papers on the floor, even in the dining room.
That said, I like AQU. It's better than Pimlico and many other tracks. I was sad to see the kitchen behind the Kelso room was closed, that was a favorite spot of mine. Also, I guess the Kelso room is now Genting's headquarters which means that the Man O War room is more filled.
AQU has a seedy reputation, but it's regulars are the same folks that hang out at Belmont. This difference is that they are in the grandstand at Belmont, so clubhouse admission hides you from them. The grandstand at AQU has been closed for nearly a decade and is the future home of the casino, so there is no division between clubhouse and grandstand.
