I couldnt exactly figure out what the rider was doing with this one. Didnt seem like he really gave her a good shot to win. She actually raced well and appeared on the scene late and got 4th.

Was this just an incredibly incompetent ride, or something more?

Looks like instructions from the trainer. The horse was hard held, and then made a late run. Quite often a formula for success on synthetics. Nothing shady here.
