I didn't realize he was still considered active.
The Pamplemousse, one of the early favorites for the 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), has been retired from racing and will stand in 2011 at Tom and Nancy Clark’s Rancho San Miguel near San Miguel, Calif. His fee is $3,500.

The Pamplemousse was scratched the day of the race
because of an injury and never raced again.

That's funny because I often wondered whatever happened to him.

Never heard a word since the day he was scratched until now.

A couple of months ago it was reported that he was back in training. He posted a few, seemingly average, works in SoCal recently:

Oak Tree At Hollywood Park 10/24/10 All Weather Track 5F 59.60 Handily Rank 6/75
Oak Tree At Hollywood Park 10/17/10 All Weather Track 6F 1:13.80 Handily Rank 7/18
Oak Tree At Hollywood Park 10/10/10 All Weather Track 6F 1:13.20 Handily Rank 1/10
Oak Tree At Hollywood Park 9/30/10 All Weather Track 5F 1:00.80 Handily Rank 10/36
Hollywood Park 9/23/10 All Weather Track 5F 1:00.40 Handily Rank 14/55

Yeah, I read a while back that he was in training again...must have either re injured himself, or they decided he just wasn't the same horse...but if he's been sound in his training, you'd think they'd find an easy spot and give it a go.
He should be a popular stallion for CA., with his type of pedigree.

Too bad, though, I had been looking foward to seeing him race again!

Must have been a career ending injury, because $3,500 a pop hardly pays the bills for a stallion earning a pension.

Thanks. It's a shame that colt didn't hold up...he was a talented and fun horse.

Thank you for the response.

I was under the impression that there was a secondary injury also.
