Pick 3 Alternates

Would it be totally not feasible for tracks to offer alternates (for late scratches) on your pick 3 tickets?

Has this ever been tried? Or is this too much for the tote system to handle?

Dave Gutfreund (aka "The Maven) said on the local racing show yesterday that this would be one of the topics that the Players Panel would discuss when they meet this week in LV. Some tracks offer consolation doubles; why not consolation pick 3s? Or how about refunds? Anything but automatically getting stuck w/the chalk.

The thought came to me after watching mountaineer last night.. They let you go change you change your pick or stick with the race fave..

This is great for people on track, but what about others playing from home?

The only time you can change a bet on a Pick 3 at Mountaineer is if it is in the third or sixth race. It has to be part of the first leg of the pick 3, and then with the scratch you can either take the favorite, or basically just cancel your ticket and play again.
