The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.

So...these illegals have more rights than legal citizens? Cute. And then the fools in D.C. wonder about the anger in the land.

California should just merge with Mexico and get it over with.

Can't do that. Not enough bailout money. But wait - free drugs. Not that might be a worthwhile trade off.

evidently the intellectual elite in this country have a different perception of illegals in our country than the regular working man.

I'm not a lawyer. But.....
There must be some legal beagles who play the ponies and tune in to this site.

It strikes me that this Supreme Court ruling opens up the question as to whether or not it is legal to charge "Out of State" students higher tuition fees than Cal students and illegals?

Does this precedent open the chances for a class action suit by "Out of State Students" re: higher tuition charges?

Maybe if they're Out Of State Illegals. The legal residents will probably still get stuck for the Out Of State rate to subsidize the In State Legals & Illegals.

Hmmmm....if they discriminate in favor of out of state illegals, out of state citizens should have a really good basis for a lawsuit.

At the rate California charges for a University education (200k+) do you actually think they'll be flooded with illegals... remember they are ineligible for government assisted loans. Besides the 4.05 GPA and 1800+ SAT requirements exclude most California HS students so Its not like illegals are displacing U.S. born

Now if you talk the College system in California which is cheaper and open to most HS students with a C average they still have to pay like everybody else.

Both illegal CA residents and out of state U.S. citizens are eligible for the in state resident fee if they attended 3 years of CA HS.

I asked a NYS judge who told me that the issue here was residential, NOT legal status.

Based on that opinion a complaint would most likely be tossed.

She said that an arguement could be made for the accuracy of the definition of residentcy, which could vary from state to state.

But here's another example of a situation which wasn't much of a problem back in the 70's and 80's, but has grown exponentially since.

Just like health care, if you dont tackle these things now, they only get :

Worse and Worse and Worse and Worse and Worse.

And no pols have the balls to solve them.
Get the picture?
