Was this the worst group ever? Do we really need to be giving out $3,000,000 to horses like these? It wasn't much better than the ridiculous Marathon.

Much to my embarrassment I announced Dangerous Midge as a toss based on class...HOWEVER, this field didn't have much class, and his Gr3 win was against some pretty good Euros.
Yuk

Without question. If I had to give letter grades for each of the races, the Turf would be an F.

Worst field ever for a race of that calibre and prize money.
BC needs to seriously ask themselves what they are doing, or not doing, to attract top quality middle distance horses.

The Derby and Arc winner was supposed to run, that certainly would've kicked the field quality up a notch or two or three.

Paddy would have helped the field.

Horrible decision by the owners of Gio Ponti. He would have hammered those horses, instead, they decided to race against Goldy.

The dirt mile isn't much better. What 1 mile dirt races in No. America attract a good field other than the Met and Cigar mile, if then ?

At least the Marathon gives breeders and owners an incentive to breed and train for good old fashioned distances. The Turf was a complete joke. Won by an English handicapper.

I will actually agree with you for once on this. While I'd like to see the Marathon alternate between turf and dirt so as to attract some real staying horses from Europe and elsewhere at least every other year, I do like how it has encouraged longer distance races like the Brooklyn being moved to 1 1/2 miles. It will take a while to get horses like that back here, but it can happen.
