With the $4,545,000 Classic, Blame won his third grade I race of the year. Earlier he won the Stephen Foster Handicap and Whitney Handicap, and he finished second in the grade I Jockey Club Gold Cup. Blame will now be retired to stud at Claiborne with a lifetime record of nine wins in 13 starts, six of the wins in graded stakes. He earned $2.7 million for the victory and retires with a career bankroll of $4,368,214.

Ok, I know some are going to say "he's done it all" and I guess that he will get lots of $$$ being the stud horse that beat Zenyatta, but I (being a novice) am surprised that he is going to retire.

That's too bad. Breeders will make money but it's bad for racing. I'm surprised people are still second-guessing Zenyatta's connections, she is 6 years old.

They should send Zenyatta to Blame. That would be a fun one to name.

When you don't start your career til your 4yo(I think) it's easy to make that presumption.

and so it begins...the first in a what will likely be another long list of retirements in the days and weeks following the BC.

Two completely different economic scenarios.
