Much has been said about how Zenyatta seems like she has another "gear" that she has never tapped. Can someone please explain this? If this is the case, why in 19 starts has she never shown us this other gear? Because she never needed to? Could she just sense that Anabaa's Creation wouldn't be quite good enough to require her to go into the next gear?

Is it possible that she shows different physiological traits (the ears being pricked) than most horses do when they are in an all-out drive?

It is malarky. If you think mike smith is risking a 17-0, 18-0 record to have her get up "just in time" against two distance challenged mares who are 20-1 longshots in the F&M sprint, then I have some land to sell you in Florida.

She showed this other gear in the BC Classic in 2009. Her Beyers leading into the race were low around the 100 mark or so. Then in the Classic she wins and her Beyer for this race jumps to 112 or so

I believe St Trinians in The Vanity made Zenyatta's use that last gear. The way Mike was moving that stick around seems she had a bit of a time finding it. ;)
