It's the new dirt surface and the 25% raise in purses.

Of course they had to ruin it all by raising the take. They are basically taking money from Horseplayers to increase purses. Supposedly 100% of the take increase is going to purses.

A golden rule of business. When a business starts worrying more about its suppliers than its customers, then it isn't too far away from hiring a bankruptcy attorney.

When Vegas started worrying about the headliners they wanted to book they went bankrupt?

Sounds like they're counting their chickens before they hatch.
They're not even waiting for the numbers from the Oak Tree meet
and Hollywood Park to advertise this.

I think that will have a major bearing on how popular the SA signal will be.

The question remains....http://i56.tinypic.com/fvfuol.gif
Can Santa Anita sustain this level of purses all the way into April, 2011 ?

I guess the title should actually read, "Scott Blasi - California Bound"

and they think a new dirt track at Santa Anita is going to nullify that trend? It very well could as long as the new course is ready and has no glitches. There is so much hostility toward synthetic surfaces that it could be a good meet. It is, after all Santa Anita. December 26 used to be magic.

Its actually the dirt. The raise in purses will be shortlived, after the first week when nobody plays their races, they'll be forced to cutback takeout and eliminate the purse increases.

I find it funny that they are already banking on this money.

Well, in the short term, purses will increase. Dirt will help, and adding 2-3% of handle to purses, even if handle is down, will increase them. Is it sustainable? Of course not, but I bet we'll see a press release after week 1 talking about how their purses are up.

It's already up

They will have to lower purses after the first month or two in my opinion.

I find this number very hard to believe. It had to be down at least 20%.

What are the chances of getting some trainers to boycott cali.racing with the horse players?

the pool fluctuations alone tonight should tell you that it's not the same amount of money. i just saw the 7 horse win, in the post parade he was 5/2. won at 7 to 1. you dont' do that in socal normally. then last race i was going to wager on the 4 who was 7/2 in the paddock, went off at 3/2 and passed (thankfully)
