To prevent another hanging chads fiasco?

We had a recent experience with the new digi machines in Ontario last week with our municipal elections.

The polls closed at 8:00p.m. The Mayoral contest (which totalled about 800k votes), had about 300k counted at 8:02! The one TV station on the air was VERY conservative in not announcing the winner until about 8:08, when 500k had been counted. There are 44 Councillors and a smaller number of School Board Trustees also elected and the vast majority were all decided by that same time.

I remember long nights waiting for votes to come in until midnight and people arriving at various campaign HQ for candidates at 8:15. They would not have downed their first pint last week and it was all over!

Are you guys using the same scanners ?

We took a 50 year step back in time around here.
We had fool-proof booths with levers and now we have paper ballots, pens, little teeny time circle to fill in, that many older people cannot see, and a scanner to take them in, but some ballots were too big to fit in. A lotof people just can't color in little circles like that - I guess the mentality of NYS politics is that coloring books are considered popular.

All in all, NYS lives down to its reputation of the moron state.

Congratulations, Rookies, you are now a full century ahead of NYS.
