A new study released Friday by the Pew Hispanic Center confirms that immigrants are benefiting before native-born workers from the slow-paced economic recovery.

Foreigners gained 656,000 jobs in the first year following the official end of the recession in June 2009. Native-born workers lost 1.2 million jobs, according to an analysis of government data by Pew, a nonpartisan research group.

As a result, the unemployment rate for immigrant workers fell to 8.7% from 9.3% between June 2009 and June 2010. For native-born workers, the rate rose to 9.7% from 9.2%.

The study—based on analysis of the Current Population Survey, conducted jointly by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau—also reveals that a greater proportion of working-age immigrants, 16 years and older, were employed recently than last year—62.3% in June 2010, compared with 61.7% in June 2009. In contrast, the share of employed native-born workers shrunk: 58.3% in June 2010 compared to 59.3% in June 2009.

Immigrant presence in the U.S. labor force has been increasing for several decades, with foreign-born workers now representing 16% of the U.S. labor force, up from 10% in 1995.

AND and and, much of this money made by the immigrants is sent Home, which gives answer to "why is the recovery so slow".

Also, it gives answer to the question "why are people having a problem paying debts".

Why are so many businesspeople will to hire immigrants? Maybe because they work for less, don't complain as much, willing to do the jobs no one else wants to do?

If the U.S. is going to keep moving it's manufacturing businesses to China, Mexico and other countries then the only jobs left are going to be in the medical profession, law, finance and politics.

Business people can't say no to them. Because they have documents (most are forged, but you aren't allowed to ask or question the veracity) and only a small percentage get kicked back nowadays. They are using SSAN's of mostly dead people and fake accounts that are created. A small percentage come back as bad and when confronted those who were caught walk off the job and disappear. Most of the time they have worked 60 days or so when the government kicks back the ssan or whatever. In many major cities if you question the veracity of the documents, btw they all look very good anymore, you may have to deal with an organization protesting your business etc. There are several pro Hispanic groups that will turn on you and the next thing you know, you restaurant or club etc is on the evening news.

The comment on manufacturing? What manufacturing is left here ? Very little, that ship has sailed.

Businesses aren't stupid. While there is the occasional con by illegals against a less vigilant but honest employer, most of documentation fraud is accomplished by collusion between employer/employee. Bottom line is that business hires immigrants, legal or not... by choice.

I disagree. The system is broken and we are given no choices to vote for.
What we need is states to start leaving the union and re-forming a USA we can be proud of. With a lot fewer states.

Dave, all I can say is.....this is how it is in the three large corps I am familiar with in the last ten years or so. All of them in the Restaurant Industry. I have seen Rest. Managers get fired for asking questions about documents and pushing the issue with their home offices. I have also seen a large national chain assist some illegals by basically informing them that they are going to ignore documents. It goes both ways. But you can no longer ask, or you face an HR department investigation.

The political correctness that runs rampant in large Corps today is ruining business. HR departments run every company now days. I have watched some good people lose very good jobs doing only what common sense would tell them is right. But common sense doesn't apply anymore. Offend a Minority or worse, offend a women and you are out on your ass.
