Unfortunately, there is no incentive for politicians to do any difficult interviews. It is common place enough that they really take no effective bad press from avoiding them.

Forget "incentive". Public servants have a duty to HONESTLY inform voters of their views, policies and agenda, so that voters can make intelligent choices. The fact that they don't do this tells us immediately they have no intentions of governing with the consent of the people's will.
