You would never know it, with their slams against the chamber of commerce, or all the knashing of teeth regarding the Citizens United supreme court decision. They were running around with their hair on fire bleating about how corporations were going to corrupt the system with their campaign spending. Where is it?

To hear top Democrats tell it (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1010/44110.html), the party is being wildly outgunned this year in the fight for campaign cash as Republicans rely on outside groups to funnel money to GOP contenders.

But the numbers tell a different story.

It’s true that conservative third-party groups are outspending their Democratic rivals. But the Democrats still have a sizable cash advantage in their party committees – making this year’s elections a lot more of a fair fight than Vice President Joe Biden (http://topics.politico.com/index.cfm/topic/JoeBiden) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (http://topics.politico.com/index.cfm/topic/NancyPelosi) let on.
So far, the latest figures show that the Democratic Party (http://topics.politico.com/index.cfm/topic/Democrats) machinery has outraised its Republican counterpart in this campaign cycle by almost $270 million.

And even when outside spending on television advertising and direct mail is added to the mix, Republicans (http://topics.politico.com/index.cfm/topic/republicans) still haven’t closed the gap.

The money race totals come to $856 million for the Democratic committees and their aligned outside groups, compared to $677 for their Republican adversaries, based on figures compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Included in that total: conservative groups have spent $169 million on ads attacking Democratic House and Senate candidates, compared to $80 million by liberal-leaning groups, based on figures as of Tuesday morning.

Where I live there is really only one contested race, a race for County Attorney. The tv ads are driving me nuts. I can't even imagine what it must be like in California or Pennsylvania. I am sure the average person will glad when this is over.

So will the Dems. They're looking forward to the Big Three Rs to lick their wounds.

I happened to see 5 minutes of the local news last night (which I avoid like the plague, but it was on while I was fussing with the DVR). This is in Denver, where we've got a tight senate race, and various other seats up for grabs. EVERY commercial was a political ad, and all of them make me want to vote for the other guy. Just awful.
