What is the lowest acceptable strike rate that you will accept?

I come across many positive roi from +.25 to +.75
with strike rates between 16 to 20%

I find these low strike rate uncomfortable

What will you accept?

In the late 1990s and early 2000s I was around 13%. For the next 5 years or so I was down to 11 1/2%. Last year 10%; this year below 9%.

Returns for each year were fine but since I bet value I have to go where the value is and that seems to be higher priced and lower probability plays.

The lower strike rate (and lesser number of playable races) makes things less fun and interesting than in the past and I spend less time at it accordingly.

The lower the strike rate the lower amount of your bankroll you can bet because the risk of ruin. It is another problem for people without very large bankrolls must deal with.

Many players can't handle the strike rate in betting overlays at 20-1 or 12-1 and higher. This game is beat by those with strong minds that don't crack or cave in to the pressure. The profit is there to achieve but most stray off their strategy too quickly...Stick to your strategy if you know it works. Win percentage doesn't make profit. Profit makes profit. Any bankroll can be built from small to big with patience and conviction. A slow but steady growth in bankroll month in and month out.

1 for 10, 3 for 20 or 4 for 50...doesn't matter if the profit is there.

I don't think you always have to play high priced horses, but it is difficult to make a profit if you never hit a high priced horse. Obviously, that means you have to play at least some high priced horses.

Lower strike rates are similar to higher-cost exotics, in that protection from randomness is dependent on bankroll.

Misscash this is the underlined heading of the every day struggle for a horseplayer. That strike rate to ROI ratio can be brutal.I've managed a 33% loss from 50% winners by bad bets. But have had 135% ROI on 25% winners too.

I wouldn't accept less than 25-30%.And it better be yielding a 40% ROI or better at that!

I hear ya.At this point I'm willing to bet more on horses in the 2-1,5/2,3-1 range. It puts ground beneath the feet when your not knocking off big exotics.I'm hitting 39% winners at 2-1 and up,50% between 2-1 and 6-1 but my best tickets came from 14-1 and 16-1 shots finishing 2nd for nice exactas.
