Down around 30% in all pools on comparable races that were identical twins.

Weather is perfect this year. It was "showery" last year.

Pretty scary handle drop.

Do they add on uncommingled foreign handle at the end of the day like CA does?

Nick Nicholson will blame it on Secretariat opening today.

I have no use for the Polytrack/Keenland/Martin Collins International propaganda Mothership.

How's that? :)

Give the Keeneland bettors a horrendous betting race with a short field of chalky 2yos and they rally to the occasion. Only down 20-25% on that one. Amazing!

http://i52.tinypic.com/167sarb.gif The real bettors are taking a nap.

Sitting on their their bankrolls for the finale at Oak Tree at Hollywood
which is scheduled to be run at 1:30 am Easter time Saturday morning.

4th race was UP 20%.

Maybe everybody woke up late?

Unexplainable handle swongs.

After about a week of racing, we'll all have a much better idea of where they actually stand. It's too early.

Last Fall meet opener they started at 2:15 I think. I wonder if that had anything to do with it? I dunno; but it is kinda weird. Seems like a good crowd and the first couple races were really good betting races (imo).

Very weird.

5th and 6th were up a little.

The place is definitely packed. Last year it was raining.

I can't figure this stuff out. I'm overmatched.

A lot of players might have been watching the Vancouver Olympics recap on ESPN Classic from 1PM to 2PM today.

Otherwise I am lost too.

I see you didn't use any pick 3's or 4's in your analysis.
They have $.50 pick 3's this year and could be getting a decent handle on those bets.

P-3 and P-4 starting in 7th were both down this year.

38K vs 43K

254K vs 274K

Possibly.

I still like the Secretariat opening day excuse.

They didn't post handle numbers on the charts but I got close to 7.5 mil when adding up all the pools.

Last year was 8.1 mil so only down about 7.5% this year.

Not bad after the big early dropoff.

They can't blame the drop on the weather.

Are you going to do every race this season?

I'd be interested to see yesterday's. Seemed like half the people there left for the football game before the biggest races.

personally, i bet 10 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. my total handle has dwindled down 3000% in the last 4 years. i am sure there are other guys as big or bigger that can say the same thing. i have no idea how racing can sustain itself with this kind of dropoff in handle.

But it will.

Horse racing (all the breeds) have run amuck with too many races
and much too much of everything, for far too long

I am quite looking forward to reading the American racing calendar in 2015 -
without the addition of new racetracks in Georgia and South Carolina.
