Excerpt:

Haines said the move to a four-day week comes after a “study of the horse population” in Southern California. The number of horses based in Southern California has dropped to a current level of approximately 2,800, a loss of more than 1,000 horses in recent years.

Yep, well the trainers/owners to a degree, didnt want to run on the too hard surface, they went poly (oh moly) and now back to , what will be "too hard surface", unless they can soften things up out there...the times are less important.

They might want to consider three. Forgetting takeout for once, imagine the money they could make by forcing horses to earn money in large fields. Give away the same amount in purses, but betting would increase big time.

I know the horsemen won't like it, but c'est la vie.

The track has yet to receive a waiver from the racing board to install a dirt track.

Really good question, Knight
I've been driving over there everyday to see if anything is going on, nothing.
If they are going to put in a new track, they had better start.
It's been raining the last few days, but so far, I don't think they have even started to tear out the old track.
What is going on is right?????????

From the article:

The removal of the synthetic track will begin Monday, Haines said. He said Santa Anita is within a week of announcing the sort of dirt that will be used on the new surface.

“We’re still finalizing what we’ll use as the surface material,” he said.

By the way it seems that Hollywood Park has some problems with their surface today. Anyone know anything about it?

Actually it should be Del Mar-Fairplex

Hol and SA will be gone when the economy/real estate market starts to recover.

LA will be gone within 5 seconds after Allred is gone.

The two entry gates on the backstretch overflowed dirt onto the track and caused severe wet spots on the outer areas. They could have run routes, but sprints would force horses to go through the bad spots by starting so close to them. There was dirt in the valet parking lot, even.
