Breathtaking http://i51.tinypic.com/1zveplw.gif moves?

I remember Megahertz smoking them in the lane, several times.

She was The Zenyatta of her time.

John Henry when he won at the Meadowlands in 1984. Video does not do justice to the move. The entire crowd seemed to startbuzzing and get louder and louder the closer he got.

I define a move as accelerating, not just passing a horse. So Secretariats Belmont is the one for me. That was a devastating move away from a field. Scary.

Arazi.

No contest.

I agree, a devastating move too. Tom Durkin went to set up a great stretch duel with Bertrando and Arazi kept on blowing by like Bertrando was still. "AND ARAZI RUNS RIGHT BY HIM!" That continuous move caught Durkin off guard. Great call.

I never saw better than Mine That Bird in the derby:faint: :faint:Secretariat's Derby was light years better than MTB's. Sham finished the last 1/4 mile in under 24 seconds and still lost the lead and by 2-1/2 lengths at that. Now that's a powerful finish.

There are the ones that get all the glory that have already been mentioned...then there are some that deserve credit but won't get it because of who they were...

Big Brown in the Preakness for one...on the turn for home....a bit unreal....

Monarchos in the Florida Derby

It is great to see Monarchos cited. Often, he's spoken of with simply, he never won another race", or "Point Given didn't show up." Both statements being true, still neither can take anything away from Monarchos' win, or his being ready, peaking on the right day to run the best race of his career in a time that remains second only to Secretariat's.

On the finish line in a box, there. Monarchos was the horse I was there for. His move in the Derby is, and will remain, one of the most exciting that I've ever seen in racing.

2001--between Monarchos' Kentucky Derby and as Durkin called it, "Tiznow wins for America", his second BC Classic only days after 9-11, it was a fine year as horseracing goes. Point Given gave us plenty of thrills in his other races, just not that first Saturday in May.
