 Thanks JR. A good read. I thought those things only happened to me when I went to a different city. At least he made his flight.

He's lucky he didn't get ravaged with bed bug bites. Toronto is turning out to be the Bed Bug capital of the world. :)

Interesting notes by crist about a trip to woodbineI have a friend here who is from a GTA Suburb. He talks about Toronto all the time. Never bothered to ask him if that city had good mass tansit. I assumed it did because Canada is a socialist country and socialist countries usually have lots of mass transit options. Montreal has a great Metro( Subway system).....Guess Toronto is a different onion.

Really?...Haven't heard. A freind of mine from here is working in Toronto on assignment. I'll have to ask him if he's heard about the little bloodsuckers.

Toronto has an excellent mass transit system. As for Canada being socialist......whatever, I think Canada has a slightly higher tax rate but if you hit a triactor for more than $5000, the government doesn't grab part of it.

There is plenty of free parking in the Toronto area.
The 401, the 403, the 410, the 407, the QEW.......

The worst days of my last job were driving up to Oshawa on a regular basis. It's like hey Canada----you have a gazillion square miles.....spread out! You don't ALL have to live and drive in Toronto.

in my running tally of what separates Northern Californians from Southern I recently added that one to my list -- we don't called freeways "the". If you said "The 101" around here nobody would know what you're talking about. Its just 101. Wonder where geographically that split starts to happen, there must be brackish part of the state somewhere where people say both and everyone is confused. Sounds like Upstate NYers must use "the" too, interesting.

This kind of stuff fascinates me, for no apparent reason.

There is a line going through my Chateau and back yard in Snowmass, Colorado.
People west of it drop "the."
People east of it use "the."
Depending upon which side of the lot I am on, determines when I use it.;)

Actually, we use the Thruway, 490, 390, 590, 21....ect. Only when we leave the country is "the" used.

Ya know what else we do? We park in our driveways and drive on our parkways! We're NYers. We're nuts! :D

The split is @ the Power Plant in Morro Bay. A fitting division to keep you Nor's in line. The smoke always billows north.
(I have no idea what that means but I've wanted to use 'billows' for weeks. I feel better now)

With our having Highways 5 & 10 and in light of the frequency of unionized Hollywood types, if you said 'Take 5' or 'Take 10', half the people within earshot would park their can and light-up a fag for the aforementioned 5 or 10.

"The" 403 bit me today. Traffic jam and I missed my flight. I am back in now at 3PM after leaving at 11AM.

However, on the good side, I get to play Hawthorne instead of flying.

Then again, I might lose my shirt......

Trust me your taxes are much higher than in the States.
Interssting though how at least the Canadian federal government doesn't tax gambling winnings.
From what I understand, Quebec's Lotto 6/49 winners are not taxed.
Uncle Sam however grabs about 45% of lottery winnings.
But then again, that's insignificant due to the odds against winning a Powerball or other pick 6 game.
BTW, US law says all gambling winnings of greater than 300-1 are taxed. In fact the track takes the money right off the top....All winners must file IRS Form 5754( I think). You must present photo ID and fill out the forms before you are paid.
Ilike Canada. I have visited many times. The people are nice.
However I could not live in a place where simple medical tests require long waits.
My friend from Toronto has a younger brother who lives in the GTA...He hurt his knee playing hockey.
He went to his doctor and the doctor scheduled an MRI.....Ryan had to wait 8 weeks....EIGHT WEEKS!!!!
I had the need for an ultrasound and got one done the same day...
Obamacare will kill that. That's why were kicking out the politicians responsible for that.

Without getting too political, the medical system in Canada is fine. The horror stories that come from the States about Canadians, come from those politically motivated in my opinion.

I haven't seen anyone here not get treated for an emergency condition nor do I know of anyone here who has lost any sleep or patience over long waits.

Sure some people complain about everything, but the system here is fine.

So much for the "great" standard of living in Canada. Maybe in rural parts. 80 minute commutes? Ultra high taxes? Terrible winters? Polytrack racing.....what is the attraction?

Better bacon.
The world's best steak sandwich, just a couple blocks down from Woodbine.

Have you gone completely crackers? Canadian bacon is made from the pork loin (same cut as center cut pork chops but without the bone.... while American bacon is made from pork belly.

Mmmmmm. Pork belly.

Just how from Napa Valley are you?

OF course it goes without saying that when you cook Canadian Bacon, you first wrap it in streaky bacon!:kiss::kiss:

That younger brother played for the wrong team.
If he played for the Maple Leafs, he wouldn't have waited 8 minutes.
All of that though begs the question, will we ever see the Maple Leafs play again? I mean they haven't since the 1960's.
