I was curious about the size of fields on opening day (Thursday), for Oak Tree at Hollywood Park. It was surprising to see that right now there are 8 or more horses in 6 of the 9 races, and a total of 73 horses for the 9 races scheduled. That's an average of at least 8 horses per race. Does anyone know if there's a logical reason for this? I mean, the previous Hollywood Park meet was pathetic in terms of entries per race.

Sure, lots of horsemen skip Fairplex and they run very cheap races. So, horses haven't had many places to run for about three weeks.

Its my observation that HP typically begins the meet with such field size and then falls off.

Ok, so we have two different reasons so far. Quite interesting.

74 horses for Saturday's 10 race card. Knock yourself out.

:D

You're on roll today.

Why do I get the feeling you'll dish out a top-spin lob on my 6'3" stance @ the net should we meet on the court?

From what I've heard, Air Force dudes knows wind & distance.

I hit several tonight, but I prefer the quickly dipping, shortish topspin shot when people approach.

So after the scratches, they probably won't even average 7 horses per race. I guess next week they'll be back with their usual 5 or 6 horse fields again.

I'd assume there's a lot more two year olds in the mix at this time of year than in their spring/summer meet.

Hate to disagree with all the learned and great handiapping minds here.

Look to the north.

With 12 horse fields in every race at Golden Gate, there is not enough horses for both tracks.
