Died peacefully in his stall. A beautiful, couragious boy, very pretty face and eyes, will be sorely missed.

Awwww I'm so sad to hear this. RIP Real Quiet.

Isn't 15 kind of young??

Terribly sad for this guy. In his paddock.

Oh my God... I am stunned about this extremely sad news. No cause of death, so I guess we assume it was a heart attack?
This just tears me up because I was one one his biggest fans...I absolutlely adored 'The Fish', and his race career was that of a true Champion...IMO. 1/2" away from being a TC winner, and he always gave it his all.
I'm sure Baffert & Pegram are heartbroken over this, it was obvious they loved the colt.

My day is ruined...I'll be thinking about Real Quiet all day, I feel so sad about his passing...damnit all :( :( :(

Fish...you rest in peace. You will be missed.

Me too and to think of him dying at 15.

No Joanie, it was paddock accident, reported in the DRF piece.

He won the only Derby I ever attended. My wife bet him, I did not. I only remember because I'm reminded of it each year in May.

Thanks, Grits...hadn't seen the DRF article...and knowing how he died makes it even worse...because unless for some reason he died fast, one can assume he suffered, at least a little bit...so this just makes me feel even worse...oh, my heart hurts for him and the connections. Horrible:(

Ah. Thanks for pointing that out. I skimmed the article and missed that. No wonder so young. :(

I just happened to go to the DRF site for something else, and read the article there. That's a shame.

Very nice stretch run by Real Quiet. Thanks for the video. By the way, every time I watch the replay of the 1998 Belmont Stakes, I always pull for him to try to beat Victory Gallop, like if the race was today. The same thing happens when I watch the great Alydar vs Affirmed.

That was the one that you, Elsie, Justin and I attended. Good memories son. I'm sure that you remember the cab ride to the airport after the race.

Something about him, started crying watch youtube races. Maybe because he was undersung a little for being almost Triple crown.

One of the better horses I got to see during what I call my "golden era" in the late 90's. Closest we've come to a triple crown since '78. RIP "Fish" Thanks for the memories.

JNL, thank you for posting this recent photo, he was still a fine looking fella.

Thanks so much.

Your welcome, he looks like he's very thoughtful there.

A true champion, and a throw back to the great champions of an earlier era - how many horses today run that hard in the Triple crown and go on to win grade one races as a four year old. I still think he won the belmont.

So true. Since RQ, the only TC hopeful that even ran at four was Funny Cide. You could argue that some recent TC hopefuls didn't even "run that hard in the Triple Crown"... *cough* Big Brown's Belmont *cough*

Kent D. is fun to watch as he wins the first two legs of triple crown. Don't want to watch Belmont.
