by a length and a half!

Not bad for the old guy. I sure hope he enjoys running. He would have faced mandatory retirement 6 years ago in Tx.

Just curious .. what rule in Texas would have forced his retirement?? Six years ago, he was only six.
:)

Maiden must be broken by Dec. 31 of 5th year. Reid M. would probably know the particulars.

Wow he really popped this time. Chart shows a 6 length lead.

ZIPPY CHIPPY dueled to the first turn, angled in sharply into the turn, drew off to hold a long lead on the backstretch and weakened in midstretch.

Their was also a claim of foul by the rider of the horse that finished 3rd against the winner. Could you imagine if Zippy was given the win.

There was also a claim of foul against the winner that was overturned. The Zipmeister could have won by default. :D

Oops ... parallel posting

Bill

Thanks for the clarification .. and thanks for the update on this race. That would have been funny if he were put up through a dq!
:D

On second thought ... one more question .. 5th year of racing, or 5th year in age?? I've seen some cases where horses don't get to make their first career start until age 5.

Sorry ... That's 5th year of age.

Although it's a technicality, I don't have any maiden races at LS in my database written for 3 and up. They're all for 3 and 4 YO's. HOU has a mix of 3 & up and 4/5 YO's. Not sure why LS is 3 and 4 only ... will have to check.

I think the Zipster bounced off his HUGE win over the harness filly a few weeks ago. Look for him to recover in the next 3-5 weeks.
It appears that shipping in to Batavia Downs may be similar to shipping in to Dubai......really takes a toll on the horses when they come back.

Can't find a reference to the 5 YO maiden rule ... going to check with Reid.

Thanks, BillW! No rush, though ... it's not like I have a barn full of maiden 5-year-olds kicking down the barn to run at Lone Star .. or any other track for that matter!
;) :D :p

Well Observer,

As usual when I open my big mouth before checking facts, I stick my foot in it  .

There is no such law in Texas. LS does not allow maidens over 4YO and HOU over 5YO as a matter of track policy (condition book). RET will allow maidens over 5YO to run in bottom level Maiden Claimers only.

Texas state law does not allow starts over 12YO unless the animal has a win in the last 12 months.

The above info thanks to PurplePower.

I think Ken Woodall had him to show. If that's the case, I guess I am way off on this guy.

BillW

He damn near backed into the winners circle. Objection on the winner was overturned.

That next jump to NW2X would have been hell :)

3 tries at Northampton, all 3 won by a horse with odds longer than the Zipper! In Selections I picked him to show and he placed, convincing all those who doubted me! I also predicted Ginstar to win a good stakes eventually, still unsettled.

Belmont Park Tommorrow 2nd race. #7 Direct Light. 6YO Maiden Horse making First Lifetime start. Very rare. Ton of works.. Big ML... Nice pedigree for a firster...but 6YO is odd enough to wonder exactly whats up

1A is 5 year old firster as well...

Tom

Possibility.....the horse is just soooooo fast, they couldn't catch him the first five years!

SandyE

they allowed this horse Direct Light to mature and probably is going to race over fences/jumps in the near future. Trainer/Jockey combo gives/gave me that clue. For starters the trainer/conditioner also has jump/chasers. My reckoning is that they want this horse to get some experience racing/running on the flat before turning him lose on a jump course.

After having a warmup race with jockey Joseph Riston last week, ZIPPY CHIPPY's trainer is reaching out for the leading jock at Northampton, Willie Belmonte for Friday Sept. 10th's third race. Unfortunately others in the race want Jock Belmonte too....so we'll see who he takes! This is lifetime start #100 without a win for ZIPPY.

Zaf

Belmonte was named on 3 horses when the entries came out for that race on September 4th.

Hope he picks Zippy this time :)

Two obstacles - Burton Sipp has a horse in the race and Edgar Paucar has a mount.

I predicted retirement after 100, and massive win ticket sales which will not be cashed if he wins.
What, Zippy does not even qualify for a racing topic forum? LOL<.
