Here's a link for those that would like to watch. For those curious, Stephen Burn from Betfair/TVG is scheduled to speak on the gaming technology panel.

The NJSEA cannot say a word about anything related to the casinos until 2011 when their agreement with the casinos is over. Once again these "meetings" are worthless without meaningful input from the NJSEA.

Say what you want about Burn, Betfair, etc., but it was music to my ears to hear him say and I'm paraphrasing here "Much of these talks are centered around the tracks and horsemen and not the consumer."

What a novel idea.

Stephen Burn of Betfair/TVG said "and ultimately the consumer" he never said not the consumer!

Is there a transcript available? I very well may have heard wrong, but a friend of mine called immediately after asking me if I heard what I previously posted - which I at least thought I did lol.

Not that it ultimately matters. An exchange will be good for players, tracks, and horsemen. We need all parties to be taken care of in order to get this game going in the right direction. This is one piece of the puzzle imo.

On a side note, I hope you're not as excitable in everyday life as your use of exclamation points on here may suggest. I joke. ;)

Go to the link you supplied and scroll down to the bottom of the screen you will see a box, click it on and there will be a 30 second commercial and then the summit will begin playing. Go to the 1 hour and 37 minute mark, Stephen Burn is introduced with the representative from high five. There will be a long segment of Burn speaking about Betfair and how his wagering system works. You will hear "benefits the consumer" many times during his presentation. He will also speak about how MP and TVG worked well together along with how his company has worked well with the NJSEA. I tried to copy it and paste it but the audio and visual kept stopping. With a blood pressure of 111/72 excitable isn't in my vocabulary. Thanks for your link and post.

Thanks for the heads up that they archived today's summit. I had no idea.

I went back and listened to it and the exact quote while Burn is speaking about Betfair is the following:

"It's something that primarily puts the consumer 1st. There's lots of talk in racing about tracks and horsemen and saving the sport, sometimes it feels a little bit like there isn't enough talk about the consumer, the customer and engaging with them."

Personally, I couldn't agree more.

I watched that last night. Jersey seems to be looking at some things that are new (for racing). A lot of the things online, like exchanges, were spoken about many years ago at racing conferences/gambling conferences etc, and they were always a longshot. I figured in the long run that they have to happen, but it would take rock bottom to get them going with a serious chance of passing. It's looks like racing in Jersey is hitting that bottom now. Maybe something good can come of this whole thing.

Hopefully Takeout Increases are not part of "the solution" in one of the many bills they will be considering in Trenton. NJ racing can ill-afford to sabotage the progress they've made this year. I was on hand yesterday and my synopsis here: (http://theknightskyracing.blogspot.com/2010/09/nj-gaming-summit-iii-possible-short.html)

One of the "solutions" is a bill that allows for the construction of OTW's in the state. The bill would not allow the rejection of a proposed OTW site at the municipal level.

It should be embarrassing to a lot of people that for ten years the OTW revenues have not been tapped into.

The main issue here is that the NJSEA hasn't done a good job in seeking out new sites for the OTW's. The one area that would have been a winner was the route 22 location in Greenbrook, NJ. It was turned down by the town based on the closeness to the middle school. The town also fought it based on the cost that would have to be borne by the town for extra police. I am sure that revenue sharing with the town would have made no difference in this towns decision to say no. The new bill will only create more hatred for the racing industry as well as endless litigation by those involved.

Yep. They've repeatedly thrown in the towel if a town rejects a proposed site. Of course the current members of the NJSEA are not to blame but
the previous members who are long gone.

You know names like Hanson and even Mulcahy.
Building the Atlantic City Convention Center, Wildwood Convention Center the Camden Aquarium and renovating the Rutgers stadium using profits from the racetrack seems like a very irresponsible thing to do if you were truly pro-horse racing.

Imagine if the NYRA ever built an Aquarium in Rochester! (gasp!)

You forgot the 85m in debt service that the NJSEA carries from the now torn down Giants Stadium. A cluster of poor financial moves that benefited members of the commission and no one else. The NJSEA is lucky they have a gag order against them during these summits by the casino agreement, if they didn't each and every member would take harsh criticism for their blunders.
