View Full Version : The Forego-Gr1

I hope the Forego isn't a foregone conclusion with no serious frontrunners to challenge Vineyard Haven, except for #9 Checklist, who may be sent to challenge VH as part of a non-coupled Pletcher entry that includes Bribon.

I am probably going to land on Here Comes Ben (#4). He gets the class test today going in his first Gr Stks race, and Solis is only 1-38 this meet (ouch!), but Ben is a tough sprinter who's won his last two times off the layoff. Figs are competitive and he loves 7f. Need someone to hook VH and hopefully he can sit a few lengths back and make a move....wish Kent D were up instead of Solis though. Charitable Man is also intruiging to me off a useful return race for A Dutrow/Ramon.

Who ya got?....and is this just a parade for Vineyard Haven??

I really don't see Big Drama taking back after the last debacle.

The more the merrier up front imo. Drama's 6f speed will put him in it from the bell. As you can probably tell, I am trying to work out a scenario to beat VH(a 4 time Gr1 winner)...Godolphin hasn't been their old dominant selves this summer in NY. Bribon may be the major beneficiary if this heats up too much.

Solis WILL NOT go between horses...not EVEN CLOSE to being the Jock he ONCE was :(

Vineyard Haven (+ Girolamo) is my key for the Pick 4. Certainly classy enough, and his last work was awesome, apparently.

Fascinating race this. Big question for me is will VH go with Checklist and Big Drama and compromise his claims or sit in behind speed like at Laurel and enhance his claims.

For the record, this is why I don't like VH. These are all of his 9 races, overall ratings for each. : indicates a short layoff, | a long layoff. Most recent is first:

1 Vineyard Haven 103 | 103 104 113 | 86 : 115 99 84 93

His last three have not been fast enough to win this kind of race, and that is definitely not something I want to see in a favorite.

If he goes, Early Pace Pressure will leave him vulnerable to closers CJ imho, if they take a pull (as at Laurel) and sits 1 or 2 off, he is probably in best position fior race set up along with his stable mate Giromalo.

Bribon, Warriors Reward need a bit of help i think, though, i do like the look of the latter if VH, Checklist and BD do put pressure on each other.

He's definitely a fragile animal, but he should be spot on for this one. Up to the racing gods to decide whether that's true or not.

Who do you like instead? Bribon?

I think Big Drama or Bribon will win. I don't know if either will be worth betting since I rarely play horses under 5 to 1 in the win spot.

By my Quirin style figs Here Comes Ben has run 2 very nice races at CD going 7f. I have them both rated a 112 which fits (on speed-not pace)with Bribon's True North and all of VH's last 4 races, also fits with Big Drama's 3 races this year. By 'fits' I mean it's within 2pts of the others. My best fig for this race is Warrior's Reward's Carter performance.

Ben is too slow pacewise but he needn't contest the early lead. His last 2 final figs came on the heels of 2 very different paces so hopefully his final number can remain constant. However, I want him a bit farther back tody than in his last 2 which should happen as they may be whisking along up front. He has a strong stretch kick at the sprint distances and here's to hoping Solis does something right and works out a trip....fingers crossed at 12-1 or so.

I've decided VH is going with Checklist and doomed (no appeal to me at 2-1 anyway)

My problem with Big D is that he has only won at the B- and C-tracks so far. On figures he's not out of it, but 4/1 is short.

Looks like Warriors Reward will run with none of my money on him. So it's Bribon and Girolamo (Betfair price) i'm betting.

All the best.
