The rise of environmentalism poisoned liberals’ historical optimism.

http://www.city-journal.org/2010/20_3_american-liberalism.html

Excerpt:

Why, then, did American liberalism, starting in the early 1970s, undergo a historic metanoia, dismissing the idea of progress just as progress was being won? Multiple political and economic forces paved liberalism’s path away from its mid-century optimism and toward an aristocratic outlook reminiscent of the Tory Radicalism of nineteenth-century Britain; but one of the most powerful was the rise of the modern environmental movement and its recurrent hysterias.

I think a key event was the Three Mile Island incident.Following all the protests not a single nuclear plant has gone online since. That was the foot in the door.
Now environmentalists can hijack any cause and claim it will create jobs, conserve energy, heal the environment and cure social injustice.

The EPA will consider banning lead bullets:

Lead was a major health problem this entire century. It is so widespread, that scientists use the absence of inorganic lead in Antarctic ice samples (a by product of tetra ethyl lead anti-knock additive to gas until about 30 years ago) as a MARKER for 1929 the year it was introduced.

Gibbon attributed the downfall of Rome from the use of pewter plates by the patricians. It can cause direct neurotoxicity at high doses.

ALL of us have some degree of body burden from bivalent lead as it has the ability to exchange one to one, for bivalent Calcium in the calcium hydroxappatite of our bones.

It is the big business disregard for the realities of toxicology that is sickening the entire population with all manner of chemicals with NO KNOWN long term effect.

Doc,
No one is for poisoning the environment or the human population.I just don't want the Socialists and Progressives taking on a cause and trying to control everyday life in America with restrictive regulations.
Lead is no longer used in pottery, great.
Taken out of gasoline 30 years ago, fine.
Banning lead bullets, I have a major problem with that !

There is still a lot of lead in batteries and in the soil from all those years of its use. You can tell, just by the lead content of bushes, how far from a freeway the plant is located by the remnant lead levels in the wood.......Inorganic lead does not magically disappear.

There was some environmental thing about Cows. They said farts were destroying the ozone or something to that effect.

Cow Farts: Global Warmers Or A Load Of Hot Air?

Excerpt:

Scientists and farmers around the world are debating a very serious subject at the moment. Cow farts. Yes, really, they're talking about farting cows. They're talking about cow burps as well, and sheep burps, and even sheep farts.

But you have to admit that it is a very creative idea for gun control. They're telegraphing us that we can keep our guns and bibles (at least for now), as long as we give up our bullets. Like we don't see through this hair-brained scam?

Then direct your anger towards CHINA, who slaps coasts of lead paint on children's toys and sends them here.

While I don't doubt that liberals want to take away my weapons, simply outlawing bullets wouldn't git 'er done. Most serious shooters are also reloaders. I've stockpiled enough lead and brass to arm a battalion.

Good idear. Particularly in Baja. Last time I went down with a chum to golf a course in Ensenada a mess of Federales were hangin' out at the gate with automatic rifles. I says to my pal, I says, "Well this is fine 'Howdoyoudo'"

Responding to a grassroots outcry from gun owners, the Environmental Protection Agency today announced that it has denied a petition by the Center for Biological Diversity and other radical groups that had sought to ban the use of lead in ammunition.

And most gun owners are probably not "serious shooters", so what is your point?
I spend a good deal of time target shooting, but I don't have the time or inclination to "roll my own". And I know gun owners who are even more "serious" than me, and they don't bother with reloads either.

You have to admit that outlawing lead bullets would be a very good start toward radical gun control.

Thanks GOD for that......lead is bad for you. Especially when it enters your body at 500 miles per hour.

Hey ANDY......looks like you dodged a bullet ()...they almost mandated synthetic ammo!
