AVG is well known for reporting more false positives then most. My hunch is your using the free version would that be correct?

Just to be sure, do a thorough scan on your machine. You may have something already and the scripts on the new site may be triggering them.

I use Webroot & it just quarantined a virus this morning.

DRF would have been the last site I thought I'd have to worry about.

Not so fast. Seems Sammy is right!

Some of my machines use AVG. This is what came up when I went to the blog page:

http://www.horsestreet.com/BBSImages/DRF_AvgAlert.png

I Googled it and found this from Norton, which is not much but not good:

I am getting the same warning. Called that lovely 800 customer support number they have and ofcourse they are denying any problem. Lady suggested I clear my cookies and cache and try again...we'll see.

Update: the above process worked for me. I use AVG by the way.

Thanks for the heads up...ya can't be too careful about this kind of stuff...so, I appreciate the info.

Think I'll just stay away from that site until it's 'cleaned up'.

I had a short conversation with a referral from one of my acquaintances at DRF who turned out to be the right guy to call.

My source told me that DRF IT security is aware of the problem and is working on it. Apparently the problem is associated with one or more of the rotating ads.

He also rightly pointed out that threats that are caught by our virus checkers are not usually much of a problem. It is the threats we don't catch.

BTW, he said that they found out about it from reading this thread.

When you gentlemen infect places like DRF because you've been hanging out ( appropriate use of term here  ) at PORN SITES--I JUST ABSOLUTELY HATE IT! Now, I have to go to Equibase to look up entries.

I don't know why I put up with any of you guys!

Anyone know if it's even safe to go there for results and entries ? Seems to me if you didn't click on the affected ads you'd be ok .

Dave Schwartz

You don't have to click on the ads. Just having the ads on the page fires the trojan.

However, the site should be fine. Bear in mind that the virus checkers ARE catching it.

Do the ads actually contain a virus? And if so, how the heck do they get there? Or are the ads triggering viruses already on the user's PC, through no fault of the ad itself?

Why would a virus creator make it a requirement that the virus get triggered by some benign outside force? Why not just trigger the virus as soon as it grabs hold of the user's PC?

I don't think there is a virus, sounds like a false positive to me. I've been there several times today and have a few different security measures running. I even turned off AdBlock to see if I could get a positive...no dice.

I even turned off AdBlock to see if I could get a positive...no dice. You may be right...false positives tend to happen a lot...could be a certain ad triggering that response...

It's the same thing as what happened on the Paulick Report the other day...someone (I think it was Pell Mell, but I might be mistaken) said they were infected after clicking on a certain story on that site...I clicked on the same story immediately after Pell Mell posted (what can I say, i'm a glutton for punishment) using a machine with no real-time anti-virus programs running and wasn't infected.

So it is probably either a false positive, or like we've read before, the affected user already had a virus on their machine from some other rogue site that was somehow "awakened" via whatever engine is used to run the advertisement (flash?)

I went to look at some results.:faint:

Now, the worst thunderstorm is going on--as I type. I feel like the boogeyman's gonna eat my laptop; or worse, its gonna start itching and break out in a rash and burn my fingers. If it does, I'm calling Steve Crist. And he BETTER pick up!

I don't know if this will be of any help, but a few months ago I could not even go to their home page without it crashing my browser within a couple of seconds along with giving me a warning.

However, I did last long enough to copy the link to the entries page and I put that in my Firefox Bookmarks. Now I go directly to that page and don't have a problem, nor do I have one when I click on the link to the PDF charts.

I haven't been to the home page since.

Try clearing your bookmarks of anything that has DRF in it.....that might help.

I had Firefox block a possible threat from a pdf file that, as Dave mentioned, loaded automatically when I loaded the DRF site after I clicked on the email ad from them about "What not to miss this weekend". Maybe I was not supposed to miss that virus?
Anyway, the pdf file contained some random text like email scammers use to get past spam blockers. Just to be sure I have just finished running a scan with no problems detected. Kinda weird.

And, Grits, If *I* was Steve Crist, I'd take your call! ;)

We run a computer repair business and fix this type of infection all the time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-by_download (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive-by_download)

The best way to avoid it is for one thing to make sure your windows computer has ALL updates, all the time. (even that can cause problems at times when they do not get it right)

If you must use windows, macs are better, linux even more so.

Then use a browser other than Internet Explorer, FireFox from mozilla is the best alternative with the addon known as ad blocker.

And of course good antivirus software and/or a personal firewall solution.

It also helps to visit http://www.opendns.com/solutions/household/
and use the dns listed at the bottom of the page in your routers configuration.

How soon do you guys think this will be cleared up/safe?

I use DRF charts and PPs for Del Mar everyday.
I just ran my Nod32, my Super-anti-spyware, my CCleaner and Advanced System Care. No problems showed up.

I use Internet Explorer. I'm on a Windows XP.

Is it safe for me to go to charts and Del Mar PPs, as long as I stay off the home page?

What a bummer.

I got a warning last night (I use Panda corporate antivirus) but not tonight. Chances are that if you got a warning your antivirus software is doing what you need it to and you are OK. BTW, if you need a free antivirus solution Avast is a lot better than AVG.

There was problem with one of the ads on our site which the IT guys caught and fixed on Friday 8/27.. The site itself was never a risk.

Finally received reply from the DRF see above.

Glad to see my virus protection is on the ball. ;)

I went to several different pages that produced warnings every time the other day and they are all clean now.

I think it is safe to jump back in the pool.

Well, this is kind of interesting because I just got some kind of malware or virus the other day and I am still struggling to get rid of it. I don't know the source.

I keep getting a pop up "Just in Time Debugging" and occasional advertisements. My malware software says I am clean and McAfee antivirus hasn't responded to it. Worked with Dell for a couple of hours yesterday and still no luck.

Anyone?

I ran Malware Bytes and several other utilities. I also checked out the links provided. So far no luck. I also have Dell working on it and we can't get anything to work. :bang:
