Bo Derek appointment to Horse Racing Board put on hold by state Senate
August 25, 2010 | 4:14 pm
Actress Bo Derek may be a "10," but state lawmakers Wednesday indefinitely put off a decision on whether to confirm her appointment by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to a state board.

The Senate Rules Committee delayed action on the governorís appointments of Derek, Keith Brackpool, David J. Israel and Richard A. Rosenberg to the California Horse Racing Board. If confirmed, they would all serve well into the administration of the next governor, who takes office in January.

The decision was announced by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg (D-Sacramento), who has been reluctant to confirm appointments that would extend beyond when Schwarzenegger leaves office at the end of this year.

Is this what was discussed in the executive session yesterday?

I think it would be fair to think so...it was determined yesterday at the rules committee, and they all were to be confirmed and it did not happen.

Most people, if they were put on "indefinite" hold, would accept the fact that they are no longer needed, and resign. ;)

Do you happen to know the reason for Rosenberg's abstaining on the Oak Tre vote?

How do you think MID and the horsemen effected that "indefinite" hold? ;)

Priorities: The California budget is always July 1- and is not yet done this year by lawmakers who know virtually zero about horseracing and could care less how addicted gamblers from their viewpoint spend their money, stalling being broke for 2 more races. That is the reality. Across the board delaying action on the members is the best new for those players whose + or - ROI is dependent on 2-3% takeout, and are rich enough outside of racing to afford betting combinations. That is the perception.

I have talked to Rosenberg and he seems very interested in the proceedings(He is relative new) and does not go along with a rubber stamp on all matters... He was the only one who wanted more information on the HANA/Los Alamitos thing but was cut off by the Chairman. It seems every one who does not indicate agreement with the Chairman, is shut down quickly.

No, I can not be specific about the Oak Tree matter, but I have my thoughts as well as you do, and we are probably correct.

I am sure their were a lot of factors about the "hold" but do not minimize the many e-mails and such from a lot of people besides horsemen, that were sent to key Senators and Assembly Reps. that set on the Rules Committee. Many were about the Ab2414 but gave more details than has been released, there has been a big effort to bring things to light.
