The article makes one wonder what the Funny Cide owners may have been offered to run in the Travers. I would guess that a discrete $200K guarantee, regardless of the outcome, is not out of the question. A guarantee of no worse than 2nd place money has certainly been used before to round up fields the public wants to see, whether or not a competitive effort from all the major contestants can be reasonably expected. Since FC is a gelding, I might consider "galloping" him for $200K, which is equivalent to the winner's share in a $333k graded stake.
