We had a funny conversation about this last night. About 3 people agreed and 3 people disagreed that you should own spots that you shovel out. In South Boston, and im sure many other cities they have this problem. People shovel out spots and put some ridiculous items to save the spot . As you can see on the following link. People are pretty creative.

But you will be putting your life in your hands in Southie if you move one of the barrels out of the way and park in the shoveled out spot. People leave the barrels, cones, etc in the spots for weeks/months after the snow melts.
Just wanted to see what people thought about this situation because ill be living it in a couple months.
