Empire Maker Officially Out of Travers

Trainer Bobby Frankel entered two horses in the Travers Stakes, just in case. Good thing he did as Frankel has declared morning line favorite Empire Maker out of the 134th running of the mid-summer derby. Frankel confirming that tonight to FOX23's Brent Martineau at the Travers Celebration at the track. He pointed to the horses cough and elevated temperature as the reasons for the decision. Peace Rules, the other horse Frankel entered, will now run Saturday with Jerry Bailey up. While he was 100% sure Empire Maker could win the Travers, Frankel says he's only 60% to 70% sure Peace Rules can do it. Empire Maker will likely next run at Belmont in September with an eye on the Breeders Cup.
