Not much talk here about Del Mar, they're over 2 weeks into the meet. Anyone here betting this stuff? Any big scores? How's the plastic treatin ya at the place where the plastic meets the turftastic?

Horses, at nice overlay odds, with a pace advantage are recently winning wire-to-wire at a rate unusual for polytracks.

Of course front runners have always done well at Del Mar regardless of surface (poly, dirt or grass). What's unusual to me are the consistent overlays. Not that I'm complaining.. :D

Seconditis is my story. My picks are running well not not good enough. Losing heart and interest quickly. Plus the idea of raising the takeout burns at me no end. The meet has been more playable than I thought it would be . I just haven't had good racing luck on my side. I was alive for some four figure scores but ran second each time. :bang:

As of 8/3/2010: None of the 8 turf miles this meet have been won by the half-miler leader, with the average winner more than 4-1/4 lengths back at the 4f marker.

I'm seeing a decent speed bias at 5.5f and 6.0f AW, with a slight closer bias for 8.5 AW and 8.5 Turf.

made my first three wagers of the meet yesterday at DMR and all were losers.

So far, I haven't got a clue what I'm doing.

Wish I could have gotten these prices at Hollywood. Can't find the final stats any more at HP for the rate of favorites & 2nd choices, but it must have been high.
Del Mar prices are :jump:

But doesn't that destroy the "so-called fact" that synthetic surfaces are death to speed horses. I've seen it stated many times on this board that synthetics definitely favor closers. Oh my! What am I to believe now?

I just bet on del mar for the second time yesturday, 3rd through 6th races got the doubles , two pick threes, tri on the 3rd and 5th, a few exactas. all in all it was a great day. i only bet from the third to 6th races too so i only had saver tickets for losers totaling only $14 in dead tickets.

There has been some crazy speed biases, pretty much the entire meet. There were like 2 days in there where Speed wasn't so great (i think it was last Saturday and Sunday) but other than that, speed has been impossible to beat. Turf races seem to be more 'honestly' run, but even those races are speed carnivals.

I was shut out on a would-be winner of a 50cent Pick4 winner for $2000 ($96 ticket) on Wednesday. Yeah that's pretty much it... :bang:

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear with my post. My comments were directed at sprint races only.

I just watched the 5th on Fri night. Yeah they were cheap but 52+ and 1:17+? This isn't thoroughbred horseracing.

It doesn't get much uglier than that.

Negative chart comments about steady, pulling. vanning, increasingly faster fractions with a 11.7 last; early leader was longshot with 113 bug, looks like nobody wanted the lead.
