Goldikova just keeps on winning winning her 10th Group 1 race in the G1 Prix Rothschild (ex Prix d'Astarte) she joins Miesque as the only horses to have won 10 Group 1 races since it's inception in 1970.

You got to love this mare she is a real champ

Funny how we get hung up on the Zen v Rachel thing when this mare is an example of true greatness. She's the best mare of her time, a time which includes the two forementioned champions. Too bad there's no conditions under which all three could meet...I think Goldikova would whip 'em.
What a gal.

Tremendous. Best filly racing. Needs to run against the boys to even be challenged.

The thing that sticks out to me in that race is that one announcer called it up to the 1 minute mark and sounds like another announcer took over the last 1/4 mile or so..

anybody find the way the front runner rode the race, a little suspicious ?

It looked like the back stretch at Daytona during a Nascar race. The leader just pulled over and let the horses by..........?

Maybe was entered as a rabbit? That is done pretty regularly over there and the horse obviously had nothing left for the finish.

Might have meant Breeders' Cup Championships, not BC Classic.

As it is if she makes the trip to Lou. and wins the Mile she'd be the first to win 3 BC races, wouldn't she (unless Zenyatta wins the Ladies Classic and does it first)?

Spalding No!

The real laugher is that her connections are planning to wheel her right back in the big mile race against colts in two weeks on Aug 15.

Don't see that going on around here very often. Here you see the big horses win tune-ups and then take 6 weeks off to prepare for...another tune-up.

Goldikova is one outstanding mare... WOW!! What a horse... She will indeed go down as one of the greatest ever.. 10 Grade 1's is simply an incredible feat. Hopefully she will remain sound and we can see her romp to her 3rd BC win in a row at CD this fall. :)

It's not a secondary surface, it's a different surface, the main surface in Europe while our main surface is dirt.

It's easier for fillies and mares to compete against males on turf so while she's impressive in what she's doing it's just not the same as going a route on dirt (and she's barely going a route as it is).

I'm wondering about the sentence in the first post. First horse since Miesque to win 10 G1s? I assume you're talking only of Europe? We have had quite a few over here do so since Miesque (Serena's Song, Zenyatta, Cigar, Skip Away all come to mind).

Yeah, I'll book that one too. There's nothing over here that beats her if she's in form. She hasn't squared off with the 3yo Canford Cliffs yet, and he may be a good one too, but nothing over here comes close. Unlike many Euros who come here as an afterthought, her target is the BC Mile, so I have a feeling she is ready.

i don't recall anyone running past Get Stormy going 2 turns since I first saw him in person at Saratoga last year when he came flying by me. I think he came home in 22 that day, and looked it, kinda like Wait a While in the Diana that year when she came whistling home at the speed of light.

Goldikova should be going to a race like the Hong Kong Mile at Shatin on International Day in December. This race will be a lot harder for her to win than another BC Turf race

Holding off the mighty Mikoshi (try not to laugh too much) and Hammock means he'll be able to hold off Goldikova? Get Stormy is a nice horse when he is allowed a slow pace to set. When he is challenged (like he was at Woodbine) he's not so unbeatable. Goldikova would crush him....badly.

Perhaps, but to their credit, the Europeans, unlike most Americans, have a less biased view of what constitutes a "great" horse. Three of the six highest rated European horses of the last 65 years were either sprinters or milers. You would be hard-pressed to find any among the Blood-Horse's top 50 or more American runners of the 20th century.

Saying that Goldikova is ordinary beyond as mile is no different than saying countless Grade/Group I two-turn horses are ordinary below a mile. And since speed and stamina are inversely related (opposite sides of the same coin, so to speak), a preference for one over the other is purely a cultural decision and has nothing to do with equine physiology. Tudor Minstrel, strictly a sprinter/miler, is the co-second highest weighted horse ever by Timeform and rated above such classic types as Ribot, Mill Reef and Dancing Brave. I suppose that means he was deemed better at a mile than they were at 12f. That sounds like a reasonable way to assess greatness to me.

Get Stormy is a very nice Grade 2 maybe even border line Grade 1 horse. Goldikova is the top Group 1 horse at a mile in the world. She is better that he is at two turns, one turn, or on the straight. Should Get Stormy even make the gate at the BC he finishes a tiring mid pack or worse. Not saying I wouldn't want to own him as he has done very well, but he is no where near world class.

If Goldikova runs her race, there is not a chance any North American based racehorse can beat her unless they run a "freaky" race. The only way she can be beaten is by another European shipping in, as Domedriver did over Rock Of Gibralter with the aid of a beneficial trip.

She's brilliant up to a mile. Beyond that she just isn't much. There's nothing wrong with that at all. I'm not saying it doesn't make her a great horse, it makes her what she is a great miler, if not one of the greatest.

But if one wants to compare her to the two top female horses in America over that same period, saying she is better is simply a foolish statement. At a mile on grass, hands down she is better, but she's shown nothing that says she could beat, let alone come close to those two beyond a mile.

There is nothing wrong with a specialist and that is what she is, but there is something extraordinary when you can watch a horse win a Grade One from 6 1/2 furlongs to a mile and a quarter.

He doesn't go fast enough. I can think of 5 group 1 horses in Europe off the top of my head that would hand him his lunch and she has beat them all. He will get run down and finish mid pack at best against real Grade/Group 1 competion. Most of what he beat the other day doesn't even rate Group 3 plus the turf was favoring speed.

Get Stormy would get ABSOLUTELY DROWNED against Goldikova. Get Stormy wins when he's allowed to set soft paces against mediocre competition. When he was challenged early in Canada, he folded up shop. First of all Courageous Cat is not exactly slow early and he's sure to be there in the Mile if nothing goes wrong. Also, Tizdejavuh is going to be a major thorn in Get Stormy's side should the two face off especially in the Mile, not that either one of them would have a chance to beat Goldikova anyway. Goldikova is too fast, and has too much tactical speed and is so handy for a European horse you would think she was an American horse. I would book any amount of money on Get Stormy because he has no shot to beat Goldikova in the Breeders Cup Mile nor does any other horse who resides on the North American side of the Atlantic, and hell, more than likely no horse that resides on the European side of the Atlantic is going to beat her either. You are out of your mind if you think Get Stormy has a chance to beat Goldikova.

Woodbine....one turn mile.......i am talking 2 turns, different animal all together. check his record since july 29th of last year at the spa.

Ok, let's check his record:

July 29th: Wins a 1 Mile Allowance race at Saratoga with an 89 Beyer over Hammock and Whitley...not exactly a who's who of stakes rivals. Hammock in fact was recently seen in for a 35K tag.

August 29th: Wins a 1 Mile Listed Stakes RESTRICTED to 3 YOs at Saratoga with a 95 Beyer over Mikoshi and Golden Mexico. Mikoshi, the horse who couldn't win an allowance at Saratoga and Golden Mexico who has yet to run a race approaching his American debut here.

October 18h: Wins a 1 Mile Grade 3 RESTRICTED to 3YOs at Keeneland with a 95 Beyer over Rescue Squad and Kinsella. Would you please tell me how many Graded races Rescue Squad and Kinsella have won between them? Don't bother because I know the answer, a big fat ZERO.

November 19th: Wins a 1 Mile and 1/16th Grade 3 RESTRICTED to 3YOSs at Churchill Downs with a 93 Beyer over Street Move and Grizzled Robert. Needless to say the word that I would associate with the 2nd and 3rd place finishers of this race is WHO?

May 22nd: Wins a 1 Mile and 1/16th Listed race at Monmouth with a 101 Beyer over Roman Tiger and Kiss the Kid. Roman Tiger came back to finish third against Get Serious in the Oceanport on Sunday (Get Serious got a 97 figure for that effort so Roman Tiger's figure will be lower) and Roman Tiger is 2 for 14 in his career and Kiss the Kid is 8 years old at this point and it's obvious he's lost a step.

June 27th: Loses and finishes 4th, off the board in a 1 Mile Grade 2 Race at Woodbine with an 87 beyer against an ordinary field, when he's put to the test early.

August 1st: Obviously wins Grade 2 Race at 1 Mile and 1/16th at Saratoga over a field that played into his hands with no other early pace types to press him in addition to the course playing towards speed. He beat former claimer Public Speaker in this race as well as Zifzaf who is an ok allowance horse who was life and death to beat Slambino and the aforementioned Rescue Squad, who is still looking to break his NW2X condition.

Key points here are that his lifetime high beyer is a 101 that was acheived while getting a perfect trip setting slow fractions over a speed favoring Monmouth course, and he has never ever set fractions faster than 23.2, 47, and 1:11, fractions that are surely massively slower than he'll see in the Breeders Cup Mile and fractions that he'll see if Tizdejavu is in the race, let alone with horses like Goldikova in the field. He has ZERO chance to beat Goldikova.
