The Obamas Prove They Aren’t Far Removed From What Most Americans are Going Through

By Doug Powers • July 26, 2010 03:07 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

The president’s family is feeling a hit like most Americans these days (http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/2529446,CST-NWS-obamacash24.article):

He says he and first lady Michelle Obama took a hit like everybody else when the economy nearly collapsed, telling ABC that a college fund for daughters Malia and Sasha has gone “up and down” with the stock market.

Obama says the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.”

Not far removed, but far enough so that the First Lady can reserve 30 rooms at a five-star hotel (http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/news/336549,michelle-obama-vacation-spain.html) in Spain next month (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100726/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_michelle_obama_spain_1): < snip

Not to mention that their net worth is about $7 million. If that's "pain", send some my way.

no matter what happens with the economy or his college funds, the guy is beyond set for life. As a president, his book deal down the road will be huge. the guy is known for his speeches and will make a fortune after he's out of office making speeches just like Clinton did/does.

i think the Obama's will be just fine

Which translates into: They'll never be able to relate to regular people. The, rich, ruling class never can.

I am assuming that your reply is satirical ? The lunacy is this quote from B. Hussein Obama:

Obama says the first couple is “not that far removed from what most Americans are going through.”

I don't know how much pain they're feeling with all these vacations.
Going from memory they vacationed already this year down south, they vacationed in Maine. Now I read today that they are going to vacation on the gulf of Mexico, then another vacation at Martha's vineyard, and then Michelle and the youngest daughter go off to Spain where they will have a "private" mother daughter vacation along with several close friends. They're staying in the swankiest hotel in Spain and have booked 30 rooms.

Barack will stay home so I guess he'll have a chance to get in a lot of golf.

was from CJ'sDad or was in the story. In either case it is a dishonest comment.
It implies, and many are stating flat out that Michelle Obama is taking thirty or more friends on vacation to Spain at taxpayers expense. Most of you will foolishly believe that.
Mrs. Obama will fly on a government plane. She will be accompanied by Secret Service and a minimal staff. This is the way it is done for all presidents and their families. There is no special treatment here.
This is from Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun Times.
http://blogs.suntimes.com/sweet/2010/07/michelle_obama_adds_spain_trip.html
From the Sweet article:
Since many of you ask when there are stories about presidential vacation travel: Mrs. Obama always flies on a U.S. government plane; she pays personal expenses herself. Her friends are not flying with her. She will travel with "minimal" staff.

Taxpayers are not paying for the hotel rooms. The friends are not flying on a government plane. Any expenses incurred by Mrs. Obama are being paid for her out of personal funds.

They went to Maine for a weekend. A weekend is not a vacation. The trip to the gulf is in relation to the oil spill.
Barack plays golf once every two weeks and who cares?

They feel your pain! Sure they do, they are on the roller coaster ride of their lives and all at such a young age to be under a microscope for the rest of their days. Do not count on a second term, the public will be sick of looking at those faces soon enough because after four years of not fixing a problem Bush will be gone to long for any traction and the socialism will have its full Mcgovernic taste with bills and taxes as far as any bad dream can fathom.

And doesn't the mother-in-law live in the White House on our tax dollars too? Or am I naive and she really pays rent to live there?

well not you of course. only Chris Matthews is a more loyal Obama devotee than yourself.

semantics. vacation, getaway weekends, whatever.
The point is they're living large, partying down, and having the time of their lives all while talking about everyone needing to sacrifice.
more than 41 rounds of golf, not too shabby.

Tell that the loons on your side of the aisle. YOU people set this standard.
It is a vacation and it is wrong and it doesn't show that he is worthless.

His brother lives in a hut somewhere. The average monthly pay in the country where his brother lives is $1 , not sure how true that is........but I read it somewhere.

If he sent the guy 10 grand he would be the richest guy in the country....

Why he doesn't do it.......??? I don't know.........

And isn't this the guy who preaches to the masses how we must share our wealth? That sharing is caring? A first class SELF-DECEIVED hypocrite, who probably stands before the mirror every day praying to himself -- Thank you, allaha, that I'm not in any way, shape or form like the lowly peons I rule over. Thank you, allaha, that I'm not stupid like they are. Thank you, allaha, that I had the good sense to get a good education. Thank you, allaha, I'm so much morally superior than the ignorant masses. Thank you, allaha, that I'm so much wiser than my fellow-man, etc., etc., etc., etc.

I wonder if BO will be rooming with that praying Pharisee for all eternity in digs to which he not now accustomed?
