The racebook at River Downs Is under construction. Due to the construction some of the betting areas were closed. There is a betting area as you enter the racebook that has eight spots for tellers. However, there are never eight tellers there. Most of the time four or five, sometimes seven, but never eight. People are being closed out. People are getting angry. River Downs needs all the help it can get. You would think management would man up all the teller stations during the construction. I wonder if they know or care about this situation?

Why is anybody in the clubhouse anyway during live racing??

I bring a backpack and a cooler and camp out in the grandstand. The heat's just a part of summer.Get out of that damn clubhouse and hang out brother!!

Cincy Player I love the heat and humidity. There is nothing better than River Downs or a Reds game when it is over 90. People think I'm nuts, but that's what I like. My headquarters are in the racebook, but I roam all over between races. My point is the management should provide enough tellers.

I hear ya.I notice it too.I was cashing out the other day and there were only 3 mutuel clerks on the first floor of the grandstand and I sat there and waited for 5 minutes on guys betting races that were going off.

Hey and if you ever want to hang out during races let me know.

I'd love to meet you Cincy Player, but I'm going to Saratoga for a few weeks, I'll get in touch. I appreciate anyone who promotes Ohio sports especially horseracing.

River Downs has lots of problems. Rumor has it that the place shut down quite awhile back, and they forgot to turn off the lights.

The betting machines are antiquated, and struggle to read vouchers, the place is understaffed.

The concession situation is desperate - no soup or chili except on live racing days.

If the truth be known there is no repair work or construction going on behind the plasterboard - they are waiting to see if the slots thing gets enacted.

Billy Hays has ruined our racing with a myriad of SHORT PRICED favorites. River Downs in now the home of the $4.60 Pick Three.

The sportsbook didn't carry Hollywood and presently doesn''t carry DelMar.

There is no marketing budget, therefore no giveaways or attractants.

Ohio racing in general is in dire straits. River Downs is home sweet home to me, and it hurts to see it in this state of mis-managment.

The TV feed alignment is pot luck and the list goes on and on. Want pizza from the pizza stand - only on selected "high volume" days.

Sad, very sad. The regulars are hoping that perhaps with the approval of slots that perhaps someone with an interest in customer service and developing River Downs as a recreational venue will purchase it and the present lame duck management will be ousted.

Until then, what is, is, and unfortunately it isn't very good!!!!

getting to call races at river for 3 years was one of the funnest things i've ever been able to do. always had a blast. It's such a beautiful track and location. I forwarded some of the concerns stated above to my pal in management there. i'm sorry you guys had a bad experience

Funny,I'm thinking about hitting the Toga myself.

Anyway, when you get back just look for the guy in the paddock area with a bookbag telling all the trainers they are insane and can confirm it by looking at their horses's ankles!!!That'll be me!!!

Seriously though.Give me a buzz.I've been tearing up Thistledown lately.I don't know what is happenning up there but if a horse can negotiate a 24 second turn time and come home in under 27 seconds, that horse be a winner!!!
