N.Korea "The army and people of the (North) will legitimately counter with their powerful nuclear deterrence the largest-ever nuclear war exercises," the commission said in a prepared statement.

China against USS George Washington in Yellow Sea: As the Yellow Sea is a high sea, the aircraft carrier can also detect the hydro-geological conditions of China's submarines' channels out to sea. Therefore, the two purposes of the joint military exercise, strategic reconnaissance and testing initial combat plans, will pose a threat to China. The United States has always talked about the China military as a threat, but this joint military exercise by the United States and South Korea proved that it is not China but the U.S. military that is the threat. We have heard this kind of saber rattling and threats from the ChiComs for over 60 years. What they left out is that the Yellow Sea borders two US allies, South Korea and Japan. Also left out was that North Korea torpedoed a South Korean ship and killed 46 men. Bleep them and the Chinese, they cant do a damn thing about us sending our warships anyplace on this planet that we so choose.

Yes they can. Look at our CNC.
We are in a precarious position these days.
No one in world has an ounce of respect or fear of this bowing baboon.
We need to keep our mouths shut and wait until we wake up an elect real leader.

Then we nuke their butts.

Can't we settle this like The Stooges with an old fashion pie fight?

The carrier USS George Washington and South Korean carrier Dokdo will lead the naval aspects of Invincible Spirit on the eastern coast of South Korea, said U.S. Army Col. Jonathan Withington of USFK. (http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/asiapcf/07/24/south.korea.drills/index.html)

This is big, because it respects China's concerns over the Yellow Sea.

Now the focus is clearly on NK

I thought this thread would be about hard-knockers who've been attending the track for twenty years or more and losing every single one of those years.

USA -
The top U.S. military officer says China is taking a "much more aggressive approach" in its policy toward international waters near its coastline, raising his level of concern about China's intentions as it continues to build its armed services and to refuse to engage in dialogue with the U.S. military. (http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/asia/Top-US-Officer-Calls-China-Aggressive-in-Yellow-Sea--99121334.html)

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen has said he has gone from being "curious" to being "concerned" about China's military buildup and its intentions, and on Friday during a trip to New Delhi, he explained part of the reason for that. (http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/asia/Top-US-Officer-Calls-China-Aggressive-in-Yellow-Sea--99121334.html)

US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen at the Pentagon, Washington (FILE) (http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/asia/Top-US-Officer-Calls-China-Aggressive-in-Yellow-Sea--99121334.html)
"They seem to be taking a much more aggressive approach with respect to the "near sea" area. Recent public statements about the United States Navy not operating in the Yellow Sea, which is an international body of water, that's just not something that we're going to adhere to," Admiral Mullen said. I mean, we're going to continue to operate in international waters, as we have historically." (http://www1.voanews.com/english/news/asia/Top-US-Officer-Calls-China-Aggressive-in-Yellow-Sea--99121334.html)

USA - "The Yellow Sea, specifically, is an international body of water. And the United States always reserves the right to operate in those, in international waters. And certainly, I hear what the Chinese are saying with respect to that," he said. "But in fact we have exercised in the Yellow Sea for a long time and I fully expect that we'll do so in the future."

China - "Countries should exercise restraint when disputes arise and settle disputes through peaceful means... make use of multilateral mechanisms like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN regional forum and six-party talks to promote common interest and common security," he said.

We would have a fight on our hands with China - who is not the potential enemy is any case. Warships have been sitting duck targets since WW2. Don't expect any military support from SK and Japan either. When was the last time we took on a country with a functioning airforce?

"In 2005: The People's Liberation Army Air Force is the largest military air force in the world with over 6,000 military airplanes and over 300,000 active personnel. The new PLAAF is updating its inventory of MiG-21 and MiG-19 copies with planned purchases of the advanced Russian made Sukhoi SU-27 FLANKER series and the newly developed J-10 strike fighter."

I'm more of a horseracing guy, so I couldn't tell you if things have been escalating, but from what little I do see it isn't the calmest global scene.

with NK seeming to be getting some protection from China...

&China has had that sanction against high-tech defense/nuclear since Tienanmen sq. - which basically forced China to develop weapons trade w/ Russia&NK

the oil pipelines going to Russia and China and the race for them between USA and China

Iran, Pakistan becoming friendly with China.
Iran announces nuclear program this weekend.

OIL Trade between Venezuela and China. Venezuela threatens today to embargo US if the Columbian/US conflict doesn't cease.
