and soon they will all be out. if the slots don't make it to sulfolk downs i am told they will not finish the meet. that could be sometime in august. they just had their 75th anniversary and guys like jerry baily and chris mccarron showed up. i have no idea why pat day wasn't there, but some of the other guys that started at sulfolk are still riding like edgar prado. the governor was a no show as well.

I was there when the track reopened in 1992, New Year's Day. Things seemed so promising at the time.

What a shame. I live in New England and I had no idea that the situation was so dire at Suffolk. :(

I thought Edgar Prado started at Laurel/Pimlico?

I hate that we count on the slots. It's like a life support that racinos don't really really want any part of. They make their money on the casino part and not the racing part.

most of his career took place in maryland, stever from rhode island was agent in maryland the same kid that has dominguez book today, but his first season was in new england just like pat day, stewart elliott started at sulfolk, i think he was from canada originally. sulfolk had some great trainers like billy perry and timmy hills, rick violette started in new england he is from methuen originally.

the gambling bill that is kicking around is either going to include the race tracks here or not. the present governor don't want the racetracks to get the slots, he is unelectable for another term, so he is trying to get his version through. the governor is a transplant to massachusetts, so he really don't care about this place.

he was riding for Frank Bertolino's monarch stable, and also Vinnie Blengs. It was obvious the first day, that he was really good, and wouldn't be around very long.

i was hoping that sulfolk got the slots. i was going to bring up a bunch of horses to train myself in sulfolk because i love the surface there. frank would bring up his babies as welll. chris carney bred a bunch of mass breds that are sitting at the brockton fair right now that he would run there along with others. the place had the potential of having a top notch meet. now it looks like they won't finish the meet this years.

It was obvious the first day, that he was really good, and wouldn't be around very long.dominic impresscia was franks trainer. he trained timely writer whom frank had a piece of with franny martin. ethel, domonic's wife still has a few horses. and the other component of the crew is still at sulfolk today training a few horsess ambrose pascucci.

i could ramble on and on about the characters that emerged from sulfolk through the years that have a big influence on horseracing today. i live about 20 minutes from the place and haven't stepped foot inside it for 5 years now. i guess i better show up one day soon like next week on a wednesday.
