the attendance was up 10% year to year for last nights meadowlands progam. i think this is because alot of people that were involved in thoroghbreds are leaving the sport for harness racing these days.
harness horses run every week. the sport is more owner friendly where the cost to train them are less. you can get by on about $40 a day and run for $4800 purses every week. in thoroughbreds you are over $70 when its all done and you are lucky to run for a $10k purse once a month.
harness racing has more people that own 1 or 2 horses and have fun at the game. if your horse cannot compete for the $4800 purse, you can move your tack and find a place with lesser horses for $3000 purse.
