Excerpt:

The only horse left in the race to win the multimillion dollar Aqueduct contract has revealed its ambitious design for the racetrack -- a 400,000-square-foot space that includes a high-end restaurant, an event center and even a stage for scantily clad showgirls.

The plans from Genting New York -- the American arm of a megabucks Asian gaming conglomerate -- call for an upscale Chinese restaurant and a football-field-sized space for social functions and corporate events.

Visitors will also get an eyeful of dancing showgirls while they hit the video slots, thanks to a stage set up behind the machines . The company claims it will be prepared to open the new racino -- featuring 4,500 video slot machines -- a mere six months after getting the OK from the state.

Scantily clad showgirls can be a bit of a distraction. I guess if you're gonna be distracted it might as well be by scantily clad showgirls. ;)

Now that's a brilliant idea that will get the ladies out to the track:rolleyes: :bang: :faint:

Why do I have the impression that this Asian group is not going to be awarded the Racino??......because they are not a choice.....they are the only option left standing.

The other two operators might have been DQ'd for seeing a potential financial disaster ahead if the Indians get to build a Casino on LI (Belmont?) But they are not stupid. This winning Asian gang with megabucks to throw around might not know what they're getting themselves into.

IMHO, NY State/NYRA are demanding too much. $300MM deposit, non refundable if deal doesn't get done.....are they kidding?

Ok andy...strong opinions from the women here...hope they add opinions. My opinion is they do not need near naked women in any casino...unless maybe in Atlantic City or Vegas (where most women are half naked anyway:D )...it has nada to do with racing or gambling in general...now, I'm not your 'typical' woman...there isn't much that shocks me, I've been there, done that, and have been around the ol' block more times than I'd like to admit...and the basis for my rejection of this 'side show' is that it'll do nothing to enhance the ambiance of whatever casino they finally do build at Aqueduct...shouldn't they want to make this a classy joint? Classy gets the folks with real money to spend, and classy gets the women in...start having dancing shows with women wrapped around a pole, and it goes downhill from there.

You guys are gonna have fun with this proposal, but if you are serious about how a Big A casino will benefit racing...forget about dancing women...if guys want to see that, there are a thousand places to go to...the track shouldn't be one of them...there are half naked women all over the place...you guys have more than enough avenues in which to see that type of 'entertainment'.
And just how many families will you see at a casino like that...duh!!

lamboguy...sure, you'll see alot of women at strip joints...but with a very few exceptions...these are not the kind of women that you'd want your son to bring home...there aren't many class strip joints around...and are you certain it was a strip club for men...or one for gay women:eek:

Well,

We have a Racino here where I live, no showgirls. The casino is restricted to adults only- you couldn have the showgirls there- that shouldn't be a problem.

But, the racetrack is family entertainment. It wouldn't make any sense to have showgirls out on the apron of the racetrack. It would just be a distraction. There are enough distractions w/o that!

The two entities are separated. You need to show valid ID to get into the casino part of the racetrack- no children. Having said that; there are mostly elderly ladies playing the slots. I don't think they'd be interested in the showgirls. So, maybe that's why we don't have them here.

This is the sort of classless crap I would have expected from a Hard Rock proposal (a few year ago I made the egregious error of spending one night of my semi-annual Vegas trip and I have never been as happy to check into the Bellagio as I was that next day).
As was previously mentioned, the overwhelming majority of slot players are women and not the type or age for whom really want to have scantily clad female dancers in their face when then are trying to play.

Now on the other hand, I am the local boyz from Ozone Park and the surrounding areas will like it.

The question I have is how many out there actually think there will be more people at Aqueduct playing the races in the unlikely event a casino ever actually happens? Whatever entity does run the slot side is going to be doing everything in their power (including scantily clad girls and most likely free alcohol) to get as many of those butts currently wagering on the horses to their more cushy side of the building. Now there are some that won't spend a penny on the slots, but history has shown at other racinos that the casino side can and will cannibalize the on track handle.

I doubt that NY is concerned much with what happens with a casino as far as the racing...they need the $$ the casino will bring in to fill their pockets, and they'll figure out whatever they have to do to give the TB industry as little as possible...but IMO, we're getting ahead of ourselves...this has been going on for so long, that I'll beleive it when they build it.

I agree with you, I will believe it when I see the doors actually open with people playing slots. I have thought for quite some time this was never going to happen which is why I always get a good chuckle when I see budgeting for future revenue from it. Yeah, that's a fiscal good move, spend money from something not likely to happen. :D

I apologize for giving the impression that I am even remotely politically correct.

You should also appologize for your impression of the neighborhood then. From the 2000 census, the racial composition of Ozone Park is as follows

White 48.0%
Black 5.3%
Hispanic 33.6%
Asian 13.9%
Other 20.4%

As if that really matters. Have you ever walked through Ozone Park to get to the track? Didn't think so. It's pretty standard middle class New York City. So what exactly is it you are trying to say?

"Boyz" is "politically correct?"

It's racist, and Ozone Park -- as OTM Al noted -- has a different demographic than you have imagined. (Not that that matters, of course.)

just joking, onefast...some do save their 'hard earned' money for college and stuff...but most, are feeding kids they have with no husband, or paying for a habit...but, in the high class clubs, I beleive there are some that do it for college money, grad school.

Onefast, you were probably not incorrect. Economic times being what they are, there are women paying their master's degree tuition doing those jobs. I was suprised. Even back when they didn't want to get stuck with $150K in student loans.......now it's worse since many can't even GET student loans. You don't "save up" $150K these days real easy.

Then again, given some of the party-schools that people go to, and pay for, not sure the actual colleges themselves wouldn't be worse than strip joints these days? .

In New Orleans, you can be out for a night on the town, ws not ununusual to see strip joints along the french quarter, everyone goes in, even the ladies, from what I saw.

There are strip joints and there are strip joints, I guess?

As for scantily clad men, Joanied, adam lambert and bon jovi are too "girly" for my tastes. They wear makeup. I'll take versions of Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott, Russell Crowe, Tommy Lee Jones, Sam Sheppard, Viggo Mortensen and Jeff Bridges.

Winter T... right...there are strip clubs and then there are strip clubs...as I said, high class clubs have gals working that probably are paying for tuition or whatever...then there's the sleazy joints...those gals are paying for habits and kids with no daddy's...there's all kinds in this ol' world...and I have never been one to judge...I've been down & out myself...but had the courage & determination to pull myself up.

As for Bon Jovi & Adam Lambert...in his younger days...Bon Jovi was a real hottie...in his chaps...very nice...Adam Lambert is a great entertainer, IMO...and he's a good looking dude...that he is, well, not straight bothers me not...and I don't care if he wears makeup...the dude can rock & roll.:jump:

Thanks for the heads up on the Rockford Files, Ralph! I had totally forgotten about that show. James Garner was great in that show.

By the way, isn't Netflix wonderful? I started using them a little over two years ago when I moved and changed from DirectTV with the mega package that cost like $130 per month with all the HBO/Cinemax/Starz, etc and went to Dish Network 250 package for half the price and used Netflix instead of getting all the movie channels and have been so pleased with both the decision and their level of service/efficiency. I have the three DVDs out at once package and so I always have something interesting to watch even if there is nothing on those 250 channels.

Love Netflix....... I stream it to my Ipad sometimes and it even works in my truck going down the road........not that I watch a movie while driving.....but I tried it to see if it would work...the wife could watch I guess on our next long trip. Having the Ipad live on the Internet in the truck is awesome. Makes a great GPS........

Netflix has a dedicated Ipad app. I have a buddy who travels for work and he has the 9 dollar deal and streams to his laptop in hotel rooms etc.......he loves it. No Hotel movies to pay for anymore.

The horses are enough for me.

But guys who know how to handle them, in Wranglers (cowboy cut, slim fit), do add to the visuals at the paddocks.

Wranglers have the heavier rolled seam on the outside of the legs. Levis have the bulkier seam on the inside of the legs. (Dead give-away, guys who ride horses and motorcycles wear Wranglers.)

Pols: Go-go a no-go for Aqueduct casino

Lose the showgirls and hold on to your horses!

Queens leaders said yesterday they want to scratch a plan to have scantily clad Las Vegas-style dancers performing at a proposed casino at Aqueduct Racetrack, while an upstate judge ordered the Paterson administration to halt its latest efforts to open a gambling facility there.

Genting New York -- the American arm of the Malaysian-based gambling giant -- unveiled images on Monday of a proposed "racino" that includes a stage for showgirls to strut their stuff while gamblers play video lottery terminals.

"That's not the type of venue we're looking for," said Community Board 10 Chairwoman Betty Bratton.

Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer (D-Ozone Park) said having showgirls at Aqueduct "went over like a lead balloon."

"That was a mistake. I'm not for scantily clothed dancers. This is not Las Vegas!" Pheffer said.

The Aqueduct racino may be the most pathetic public-private dance I've ever witnessed. And that charade is now into it's 9th year?! Jeez. You could try to mismanage something this badly and not pull it off. I suppose half-naked dancing chicks is just the natural evolution of things at this point.
