I'm sorry but Zenyatta has not proven her self on dirt. As well as she has run on poly in the past she has not faced a field as deep as this one. And in the last out St Trinians almost had her number and Mike did not go on about how she had another gear and all that stuff... I think we've seen her bottom. So with that how would St Trinians fair against this field? Also Mike would have to get Zenyatta much closer to the pace and that means running more then the last 3/16's. These are not a bunch of claimers that will be backing up after the turn, I don't think she wins over this field.

Ruffian by seven. Rachel Alexandra a distant second. Tossup for third.

Tough between Lady's Secret and Ruffian.
I took Lady 'cause I saw some of her better races.

Ruffian wins, but there are a bunch of tough broads (think Joanied :) ) in this race, so even though I like RA, she's not a given to place or show. Zenyatta finishes in the bottom half for the reasons Ontherails states.

Aren't they 1st cousins as well?? Secretariat was Ruffian's uncle, so Lady should be her 1st cousin. I know it's horses, and doesn't translate like human relations, but an interesting factoid.

I'll take that as a compliment, tucker:ThmbUp: :) ...
this IS a race with some tough broads in the field...imagine what racing would be like to have this calibur of horse running today...bet it'd be pretty difficult for anyone to bitch about any of them...well, except RA & Z;)

With Ruffian setting the pace, and the like's of Lady's Secret, Go for Wand, Rachel right on her hip the whole way, the pace would be a killer...but, although I don't like going along with the crowd, but I think Ruffian would hang on for the win...what comes next is so hard...how about a dead heat for place with all the rest:D Zenyatta may be a 'pro ride' specialist, but we know she can run just as well on dirt...and with blistering fractions...she'll be coming. Rachel has yet to try 1 1/4 mile...maybe she can get it, but not in this race...I think she comes up short...

I've been thinking about this for a few days, and still can't make up my mind...so, I'll just go with:

Ruffian...by 1/2 length
Zenyatta...by a nose over...
Personal Ensign

Some voters are spreading out over trifectas, it looks like. But I am just going to go for the win with Ruffian.

Obviously one heck of a race! I would probably make a propositional bet on Z to finish in the top half of the field to anyone who would offer it.

In reality, I could see her taking fifth as her effort levels out at the head of the stretch. I believe there are too many frontrunners with staying power. She'd either have to use up her late kick early to stay close, or have a ton of ground to make up down the lane. Either way, there's too much quality for a late closer to win this type of race.

Too many bullets for Ruffian to fend off, unless she gets loose in world record fractions that are too quick for anyone to challenge her, and then you have the final 1/4 for her to go. After that, who could really call this one? Helluva race to watch.

Could be. Z is always at the mercy of her style and with a field of this historical quality it would be very, very tough to pull off.

To be honest, a prop bet of top half vs bottom half is probably about as specific as I would want to go with a bet. I know that it may go against the spirit of this forum (but maybe not this post?), but I would just love to stand/pace and watch this race without having to subconsciously pull for one of them over the others just because I had a bet on her. Several on this list have been "my favorite" at some point or another over the years. A lot of big hearts in that field.

Exactly...I'm sure everyone has watched a race or two where you want nearly every horse in the field to win...this is one of those races...
I put Ruffian on top because she was so insane with her running, I beleive she'd hang on for a close finish...and although I was working at Belmont Park during that time, and we even ran 2nd against her in the CCAO...I don't have as much of a soft spot in my heart as I do some of the others in this field.

I just love your last sentence..." a lot of big hearts in that field"

Final Odds:

Zenyatta- 7/1
Personal Ensign- 8/1
Bayakoa- 41/1
Inside Information- 11/1
Go for Wand- 23/1
Davona Dale- 75/1
Princess Rooney- 70/1
Genuine Risk- 75/1
Lady's Secret- 18/1
Ruffian- 2/1
Azeri- 41/1
Shuvee- 25/1
Rachel Alexandra- 11/1
Busher- 40/1

At the start, Ruffian and Lady's Secret immeadiately challenge for the lead, with Rachel Alexandra and Go for Wand keeping tabs on them, as Bayakoa and Princess Rooney getting stalking spots. They're followed, in order, by Personal Ensign, Shuvee, Busher, Azeri, Inside Information, Genuine Risk, Zenyatta, and Davona Dale through 22 and 3 and 45 flat fractions.

Down the backside, Rachel rushes up to the flank of Ruffian, dead set on taking the lead despite the stout restraint of Calvin. Lady's Secret is beginning to tire as Personal Ensign and Inside Information move up. Busher is advancing 3 wide through a 1:08.3 split for 6 Furlongs, and Zenyatta follows her. Rounding the far turn, Ruffian still clings to the lead by a neck, with Rachel trying to hold on but stopping. Go for Wand is moving up 3 wide, as Personal Ensign weaves her way through. Lady's Secret is tiring, as Zenyatta rushes 5 wide but struggles to keep up with the blazing speed after 1:33.2 for the mile.

Down the stretch, Ruffian has wrestled the lead by 1/2 a length, but Personal Ensign is coming on big time through horses. Rachel Alexandra is chasing PE, as Go for Wand starts again, Lady's Secret is dropping back, and the rallies of Inside Information and Zenyatta have stopped, with Bayakoa having tired the most. Down to the wire, it's Personal Ensign in front by 1 length, with Rachel Alexandra in second, a head ahead of Ruffian for third, followed three lengths behind by Go For Wand for fourth and Lady's Secret for fifth.

Leaving out a filly who would be favored over all but perhaps 3 of those in this field does not add credbility to this proposed fantasy "classic".

1:59.1 is a fast race, and would win every KD ever run. In his Belmont, Secretariat only did 1:59.0 for the first 10F. Just saying that this is an unrealistic race pace even for these great ladies.
