If you did an 11-horse roundrobin, you'd cash $175-plus on a $110 investment, am I right ?

I think you're right but I'm not that familiar with round robin bets


That would be 11x10 =110 bets on every possible win/win parlay and would collect (in this case) on 6 of them, right?

Going yet another way ... straight $10 win bets on 11 horses would yield $171 but the thrill of having $66 riding on Mike Cole would be missing.:D

You'd collect on only three, but they'd be about $60, $30 and $80, I think.

What's "roundrobin"?

The bookies used to offer a thing called a "train", which was simple a series of parlays of all the horses, and where any two had to win in order to recover some of your wager.

I'm not even sure I could compute (or absorb) the cost of an eleven horse train today.

BTW, most of the bookies had limits on payouts of 32, 14 and 7. They never paid more than $32 on a winning horse.

Just 2-horse parlays.



Example:

R1-R2, R1-R3, R1-R4, etc. = 10 bets;

R2-R3, R2-R4, etc. = 9 bets;



10 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 55 bets. :) .
