The P6 on 8/7 at Delmar paid $7,768.40. This is clearly a good chunk of change but it seemed short to me so I calcualted the $2 Parlay, which was $13,351.90. The Pick 6 represented a 42% discount to the straight bets! Clearly poor value.
So, aside from the obvious (playing the pick 6 when there is a carryover and possible positive expectation), has anyone done any research about under what conditions the Pick 6 outperforms the parlay? I would think that in most cases the Pick 6 would outperform due to the lower effective takeout per race.
