The radical Reconquistas have achieved their first complete victory. Maywood, California, an incorporated city east of downtown LA, has become just like Mexico. 97% Hispanic, estimated 40% illegals, it is now broke. The city is laying off its police force and city employees and contracting for essential services with outside agencies. Illegals can drive in Maywood without a drivers license, it is a sanctuary city, city business is conducted in Spanish, etc. More at the link. This is a preview of what California and the Southwest is facing in the future unless drastic steps are taken now. Even states in other parts of the country with growing illegal problems could be looking at the future. Hooray for Arizona, but much more needs to be done to prevent large parts of the nation from becoming a clone of a 3rd world country.

I really think it would be a good idea to give CA to the Mexicans. The place is bankrupt anyway.
Just think of the benefits; No more Boxer, Pelosi or Fiddlestein.

And if we are lucky, maybe after all the illegals have taken over, the big one will hit and it will fall into the Pacific ocean !! AMF !!

Not much of a splash with this story from the outlets.

ABC had a 4 page article. They briefly mentioned the ethnic make-up of the town. That moved into Harrisburg PA, Jefferson County AL, Detroit to illustrate it being a 'moving trend' around the country.

If anyone with any level of honesty or a modicum of understanding of the facts would have written that article it would have in the very least pointed out the SancCity Status, et al.

Now all that sounds good, but would we really want the cartels running Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, and Del Mar? Hmmm, on second thought, they ARE businessmen, so perhaps they might not do such a bad job after all.

I think you find some town just like this in every border state. An ex boss of mine was transfered to Texas. He says in south Texas, the illegals are thicker than flies there.

Good point, I was just mixing in a little humor into a very serious topic that has greatly disturbed me.

Do you consider Maywood California a border town? Have you ever been to south Texas?

"Thicker than flies"

Maywood is no where near the border -- it is in L.A. The weird thing is I've never heard of it, and I used to be a courier in L.A. and know most of Los Angeles & Orange counties from memory.

From the Maywood website:

(June 23, 2010 -- Maywood, CA) The City of Maywood is developing an innovative strategy to continue to provide residents quality and uninterrupted public services. As such, the City of Maywood will contract out all of its municipal services to help offset its costs associated with the recent loss of its insurance and workers compensation as well as shrinking grants and funding from both the state and the federal government.

“Our community will continue to receive quality services”, stated Mayor Ana Rosa Rizo. “Maywood’s streets will continue to be swept, our summer park programs will continue to operate, and our waste will be collected and hauled as scheduled. Further, the community will be protected and patrolled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department”.

The City is seeking to contract out an additional portion of its municipal services given that its insurance carrier, the Joint Powers Insurance Authority (JPIA) will terminate its coverage effective June 30, 2010. The City of Maywood will lose its workers compensation and commercial insurance due to it claims history over the last five years as reflected in 2005-2010 Loss Summary Statements. As a result, the City of Maywood will be unable to adminster a traditional staff.

“The City of Maywood will continue to provide consistent and quality services to all our families, residents and businesses as we restructure to save costs for our community” stated Interim City Manager Angela Spaccia. “We will continue to ensure our residents receive the quality of services they deserve”.

Now that Arnie is paying all state employees the federal minimum wage, perhaps Maywood can rehire all of their employees.
