Whatever happened to the 2006 jockey race-fixing investigation at Tampa Bay Downs? Prominent jockeys were named, most of them never rode in a race again, but the details of the case were never made public.

When I google for information, the details I get are sketchy...and at least 3 years old.

Is this another example of the industry playing it "close to the vest", to avoid any more negative publicity?

Sounds like some old school news but one that I'd like to find out about.I get busted out of so many exactas at TB it literally makes me scream.

I know one of the big trainers down there was banned.Offhand I cant think of his name though.

hmmmmm was Capone an industry?????????

The level of hide the truth in this game is the MAJOR REASON for it's decline.

You will not convince anyone over an 80IQ that is not the case.

The perception RULES.

Now the "it's my horse" and "for the good of the game" types will blow a stack.

However the perception stands and their is some truth behind that perception.

I believe 3 jockeys were reinstated, and I think TBD was connected to the Great Lakes (area) scandal.
Wth secret and closed sectors in racing, it is left up to the players, media, and public to draw their own conclusions, like when Santos won the KY Derby with a "battery" according to the Miami paper- and some players actually also bought into the lie when the "battery" was obviously Bailey's blue silks in the backgrouns of Santos' cupped hand!!
Someone needs to wrte a book on racing myths and debunk them for the public AND many horseplayers with common sense and facts!

Former banned jockey Houghton still battles image

Since December 2006, when Tampa Bay Downs excluded Houghton and six other riders from the track when their names came up in a race-fixing investigation, Houghton

essentially has had to prove his innocence to gain permission to ride at various tracks.

Each time he decides a new track might offer a career opportunity, he first faces extensive review from track officials and/or regulators, essentially forcing him to prove his innocence.

TampaBay’s decision followed an FBI investigation that would lead to three indictments. Information from the FBI and Thoroughbred Racing Protective

I think this is an example of the industry not finding any evidence of any wrong doing after a wild goose chase.

tampa's only involvement was not allowing the riders access to the grounds,,,pretty sure the races were in michigan, and some suspicious tickets were cashed in delaware.....

"large wagers would create a “false favorite,” as other bettors—believing they were following smart early money—would continue to wager on the horse in all pools."
Wow! Betters who guess at smart money instead of handicapping!

11th story down The article states that "some jockeys allegedly received bribes". Other articles that I was able to find also gave the same sort of vague information.

Seven top jockeys caught in a race-fixing scandal, at two racetracks, over a time span of two years, and all we horseplayers are entitled to are vague comments like..."some jockeys allegedly received bribes"?

It shows the regard that the racing industry has for us bettors...who are, after all, the people most directly affected by crimes like these.

The Paulick Report has some additional information including a copy of the indictment, which can be dry reading if you're not used to reading legal documents.

Thaskalos, this is the only thread I'm aware of here at PA, sweetheart. And still today I won't not touch anything related to Tampa. My thoughts on this don't change.
