Local LA station KTLA had a memorial about coach this weekend and I thought I knew a lot about him....There is a lot more I was not aware of.

Its funny not many know that Mr.Wooden was violating rules with boosters...back in the 60's

I was impressed with this from that Wikipedia summary:

In 1947, Wooden's basketball team won the Indiana Collegiate Conference title and received an invitation to the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB) National Tournament in Kansas City. Wooden refused the invitation, citing the NAIB's policy banning African American players. One of Wooden's players was Clarence Walker, an African-American from East Chicago, Indiana.

If it wasn't for a snowstorm and the phones getting knocked out he would have been in Minnesota and not UCLA. Strange how things work out.
