Apprentice jockey Oriana Rossi deserves some attention.

Apprentice jockey Oriana Rossi can gain her first stakes victory in Saturday's $100,000-added, GradeIII Debutante Stakes at Churchill Downs, riding 4-1 third choice Internet Café for major client John Hancock.

Three of Rossi's seven victories this meet have been on 2-year-olds, including a six-length maiden victory on Internet Café on May21 and a nose allowance victory on her 10 days later.

She's one of few jockeys that shows a flat bet profit if you bet her in every mount this year. Nothing new perhaps but definitely special.

Have you ever asked if Joe Bravo or Richard Migliore make a mean Fettucine Alfredo?

Let's all be nice to each other. It's common to ask about an Italian woman if she can cook. Italian women love to cook and most of them are very good cooks. I wouldn't ask Joe Bravo if he could cook because unless he's in the mob cooking for the crew chances are he doesn't do much cooking. Have a piece of cake with some espresso and relax a little. It's nice. I'm going to smoke another stogie and ponder Saratoga and Del Mar. This Summer is going to be a lot of fun!

When I see these things I always resent the stupid comments people make about jockeys in general---including on this sight.

They are really the bravest athletes I know.

When they do make mistakes it is tough but, they have a split second
to make a decision and sometimes it is the wrong one.

I have been betting horses for 43 years, I have the night before, the day
of the race---and still make mistakes. They have a split second.
