TRENTON, N.J. - Democrats in the New Jersey Assembly have failed to override the Republican governor's veto of a tax surcharge on millionaires.

Monday's vote was strictly along party lines. All 47 Assembly Democrats voted for the override and all 33 Republicans voted against it. The measure needed seven GOP votes to advance.

The one-year surcharge would have raised about $600 million by increasing income taxes nearly two percent on the state's 16,000 highest wage earners.

It would have put the top earners into a 10.75 percent tax rate on income above $1 million.

more at the linki hate to say this, but how stupid can those democrats be there upping the rate. do they really think they are going to collect more money for revenue?

i am going to answer this question easily in a resounding NO. the legitamate millionaires that will pay will wind up moving out of the state so there will be less collected from them. the millionaires that stole the money to begin with will know how to cheat on their taxes because the risk will be worth the reward to them and those guys will wind up paying less. i know the tax system is inequitable and the rich never pay their fair share. but that is the way the system is, the rich contribute to the politions that make the laws and the politions owe it to them with breaks coming back at them in various different ways. that is the system folks, and i don't have the right answers, what i am positive about in this case is that if they try to snooker the rich they will get less revenues and still have to make the budget cuts. maybe they should look into budget cuts for policement that make $150,000 a year, and firemen that make big money as well.

A step in the right direction....but when is someone going to draft a bill to cut spending by about 50% for starters? :bang: Forget about stupid, ill-conceived moratoriums on oil. We need nationwide moratoriums on spending!

I thought you libs were all for HUGE taxes on evil corporations? I'm surprised you haven't applauded him for that. :D

Since libs seemed to love the movie "Death of a President" during Bush's term, I don't feel so bad about suggesting the following poll questions:

Hypothetical: Obama, Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Waxman, Emmanuel and Boxer all go out for dinner. The chef (who also happens to be one of those violent, racist Tea Party members) poisons them all and they croak.

Poll Question #1: How does the stock market react? Up, Down, Unchanged?

Poll Question #2: Unemployment? More jobs, Fewer Jobs, Unchanged?

I don't anybody - lib or otherwise - who 'loved' that movie.

It's more about siding with the less fortunate, you know, those evil rich folks.

Chase more wealthy folks out of the state and you have more remaining dependents in need of big government.
