Very sad breakdown of INHALER in 9th@Belmont.
Looked like he was running in spurts on backside,
Ramon looked to be pulling up when Inhaler went down.
Was it a Heart Attack? I've only seen one other horse
fall in that strange way... many years ago, @ Rock.

I thought it might be a heart attack as well. However, after watching the head-on replay on the NYRA website I am pretty sure he broke his front leg. You can see him stand up in the background. Very, very sad.

Ugly. Horse was badly washed out pre race and broke through the gate before the start. Surprised they let him run.

Ramon felt it a few strides before the fall and began to pull up. Looked over his right shoulder and may have warned the jock to his outside that there was trouble.

Nowadays, since Barbaro, I hate to see any horse WALK out of the gate.

Goldberg's horse. He usually brings them back fit. I would think if Ramon felt anything funny in the warm-up he wouldn't have stayed on him. He was riding him aggressively like he was fit, but did try to pull up on the turn, taking out the other cofavorite, who still finished fourth. It was hot today, many reasons for a washout. But, yes, very sad. Makes you wonder about this game.

He didn't "WALK" out of the gate.

There is nothing that makes me doubt this sport more than seeing a horse that has suffered a catastrophic injury who gets up and tries to keep running. It is the most horrific thing to see, and I have seen the biggest, most macho guys brought to tears from the scene.

The horse's record had long layups and other red flags.

The drop to race with a tag was highly questionable in light of the works
at Colts Neck stable. IF those works are to be believed.

For some reason, I am really pissed about this breakdown. It is unfair for me to point a finger, but when you have a trainer go on a 6 week tear like Goldberg, whose runners all come back firing (and I mean FIRING...most going wire to wire) and then one goes down like that....eeeeeeuuuuwww. Makes me wonder.
