Maybe some U.S. networks should look at this model. Higher ratings mean new blood to the game.

Its the right move I think. People want to play a game, have a chance at prizes, make bets, etc. Of course it's not for serious players, but it could be an easy and inviting gateway for new people to come through.

I sent this article to NTRA. It's a great example of how spotlighting betting helps racing.

For years I have been trumpeting the idea of a weekly 1/2 hour tv game show that has some kind of huge prize attached to whoever wins. I have always thought that some kind of "who wants to be a millionaire" for handicapping would make for great theater. You could have a group of people picking five or six races in a short amount of time, standings continually changing based on how their picks finish. I'd make it so nobody could pick the same horse in a race, and change the contestant selection order each round. Tracks and sponsors could put up the $$$; I'm sure Twin Spires would get a big spike in signups, just like Woodbine did. I don't have all the particulars figured out, but I think the basic idea would work.

great idea...I think if it's done right, something like this would be a hit...if they could make it like a game show, air it on network, I beleive folks would tune in.
Seems everyone likes to play games...and racing is the best game in town!!

I think R2 Collective is behind Polytrack or something. ;) Maybe not. ;)

You gotta watch some of these marketing guys. ;)

The show has contests - basically trying to get the viewers to sign up with HPI (Woodbine's betting interface) and is trying hard to explain the basics of betting to the viewers hoping to get a few new bettors. And it works because they'll get viewers that have no interest in racing just to see Laura Diakun :) .

$100k in new handle from newbie sign ups, and decent stats. They seem to be doing some good.

60k for the harness races on a regional is good. Tbreds on wednesday would have more, so that is encouraging, in a sport where we can not get people to tune in for much other than the Derby or BC.
