I saw this on Facebook this morning and it reminded me how true. "Most great people have attained their greatest success just one step beyond their greatest failure." — Napoleon Hill: Author

Have you read one of his books?

I was inspired by his "Think and Grow Rich" when I was in college.

All of them over the years. This particular quote from "Think and Grow Rich".

My favorite was written long before the most popular one. I am referring to his "The Law of Success" (1928). "Think and Grow Rich" (most popular) was published in 1937

On the topic of books how many of you have and like a Kindle? In your opinion is it better just to get an Apple iPad now?

I long to have the name Napoleon. Just think, you're at a gathering and you hear "Hey Napoleon, how do you want you want steak?" That would be uplifting. :p

All of Hill's books were at least good; several were excellent. In Master Key to Riches he shows a somewhat odd side of himself. Probably a very effective approach but very odd.

Essentially, he has created these imaginary "guides" (as he calls them). He guide has a specialty such as physical health, wealth, etc. He modeled these guides after real people who knew that embodied the characteristics such a guide would need.

He would meet with his guides in a round-table discussion every day, the purpose being to advance his goals.

Sounds a bit fruit-cake-like but probably has merit.

Gotta go now. WE are meeting with OUR guides.

Jim,

LOL - Do you suppose he had to tip extra?

One time Beth and I were at a stage show in Reno. As "post time" neared, we hear a voice of the PA system say, "Donner, party of 12. Donner, party of 12. Your table is ready."

About 3 minutes later we hear: "Donner, Party of 10. Your table is ready."

They continued to count down until it was, "Mr. Donner, your table is ready."

Xfile,

Thank you for that great link.

All those great videos of Napoleon Hill just right there for the watching.

In about 1969, I attended one of his lectures. I recall his voice being a bit squeakier then and he was just so tiny. Must have been about 5'5" or less.

the Donner party story was priceless.

A lot of these salesmen types have good things to pass on.

I have always liked Dale Carnegie. All of his books are great! The guy is brilliiant and knows how to handle people. Whether argument, business negotiation, or home life.

I like him too:

This quote really applies to many horseplayers:
‎"The world is full of abundance and opportunity, but far too many people come to the fountain of life with a sieve instead of a tank car, a teaspoon instead of a steam shovel. They expect little and as a result they get little." - Ben Sweetland
